Has anyone had skin tags removed; either a home remedy that worked or at a private clinic.

Miss A, please do not deal with moles on a diy basis! Get them checked out.

I got rid of one near my bottom eyelash line. Every morning i would squeeze the base really tight with steralised tweezers after a few days it disappeared
No, it really wasn't painful. Just pinched

A friend who was a nurse recommend snipping them and gave me some sterile hospital scissors. Worked a treat for me.

I've had some frozen off at the doctor's and injected by a beautician, who did electrolysis, years ago but, mostly, I just twist them off with tweezers or scrape them off with my nails. I did this recently on one on my eyelid and it's completely gone and left no bump at all.

I've also seen a small tool on amazon which pops a tiny elastic band over the tag, which strangles the blood supply rather like tying cotton round. I think this would be better for larger ones.

MissA I have a mole at the top of my thigh and went to my GP who immediately put me on the 2-week list to be seen in case it was cancerous. Luckily it was not but please do not fiddle with moles. Even if any doubt regarding tags especially on the nose or eye please see your GP.

If you have it done privately please make sure instruments are sterile and the person is suitably qualified.

I use BIO OIL You don't need to be so precise about where it goes . Mine reduce fairly quickly and regular application seems to stop others appearing.

We have a minor surgery unit that deals with things like that, though there is a long waiting list. I had a seborrhoeic wart removed painlessly. I have done the cotton thing on a friend's tags, but the same didn't work on my son's. I pinch my tags off and do exactly the same as Gagajo for milia.

I am a bit cheeky and ask the surgeon to remove them if ever I am undergoing surgery (for whatever other reason) and they always do it! I have has skin tags removed from arm pit during an ENT op, a facial mole removed during a nose op, and a mole by belly button removed during a gynae op! I know I am too chicken to get them done otherwise.

There is a product called cryotag that you can buy from boots the chemist . Very effective and cheaper than going to have them removed .

Cabbie21. I had the same problem with a 'spot' on my nose, sometimes bleeding and getting a scan. During lockdown I couldn't get to see the Dr. As things eased I got to phone him and then see him. It turns out the spot is a bit nasty, not life-threatening or anything like that, but needs to be surgically removed, so I'm on the waiting list now.

A few years ago a friend had eyelid tags removed at Moorfields Eye Hospital at an outpatients clinic. The doctor said they prefer people to come to them (or any other eye hospital) rather than a private clinic because eyes are too important to take risks with. It was done on the NHS. Don't know if they still do it there, especially at the moment.

I have used the tieing off method using extra fine invisible thread. Painless and works well.

It's easier to tie a hair rather than cotton round the neck of a tag. A surgeon's knot [extra turn] tied in hair will stay tight.

I had several skin tags removed from round my neck about 4 years ago under NHS Scotland by my GP who had specialised in skin conditions. It went well, but he had to put a dressing on one larger one as it bled quite a bit. Fortunately they gave me an extra dressing to take home as, during the night, it bled heavily and saturated the fresh dressing and my pillow. Fortunately DH was not yet awake as I looked as though I had had my throat slashed. I got it checked and it was fine. However, I would not EVER carry out a procedure on ANY wart/skin growth, without getting it checked by a GP/nurse first.

I had one on my eyelid and went to a private doctor.cost £400which included a cancer test. Another appeared on my chin went to beauty therapist and she burnt it off £40. This was more uncomfortable than doctors. Big difference, but must say if I had another near my eye would still go to doctor .

Hi, i had mind done (5 of them) at my local beauty salon. It was quite quick and not too expensive - and none of them have come back and that was about 3 yrs ago!

icanhandthemback Sun 23-Aug-20 11:23:03

I have several small ones on my eyelids which I hate. I went to the hospital to see a consultant where he informed me that the scars would be worse than the tags if I removed them and as I had several more coming, it would be waste of his time. I came away feeling quite dejected and dismissed.
I keep thinking that using a home remedy might be the answer but am a little nervous that it might damage my eyes following an unfortunate incident with super glue and fake eye lashes! That was an evening to remember.

I had mine cauterised at my doctors practice a few years ago. Didn’t hurt at all.

Albangirl14 Sun 23-Aug-20 11:52:11

I have stopped wearing chains or necklaces for the same reasom the rubbing on the skin made mine worse. Only wear something round my neck for special occasions now.

albertina Sun 23-Aug-20 12:00:26

Thanks for the advice about that. I have one on my arm.

One word of advice. I had a "pimple" on my chest. It annoyed me because the seat belt rubbed on it in the Summertime when I wasn't wearing a jumper or a coat.

I mentioned it to the doctor when I was there about something else. To my surprise he got out a magnifying glass and gave it the once over. I'm glad he did as it was a basal cell carcinoma. These in themselves are rarely dangerous, but sometimes they are. Especially ones like mine that had been there for a very long time.

I had day surgery to have it removed and I do have a sizeable scar, but better than not having it done.

Doreen5 Sun 23-Aug-20 12:03:02

I had a skin tag on my eyelid removed privately because it couldn't be done on the NHS as it was classed as cosmetic. It cost me £750!

Lancslass1 Sun 23-Aug-20 12:09:29

Skin tags ,cotton tied round.
Yes as others have said it is what doctors recommend.

Blossoming Sun 23-Aug-20 12:16:35

I have never heard of skin tags before, they sound horrific. What causes them?

Charleygirl5 Sun 23-Aug-20 12:17:03

An eye hospital I am sure would have operated on you because of the closeness to your eye. Hopefully you will not need a repeat performance.

JS06 Sun 23-Aug-20 12:43:46

An appt with an advanced electrolysis practitioner is the way forward. They will check out the skin tag and refer you to your GP if required. Otherwise the procedure is swift and offers permanent removal.

A quick google check will find you a person in your location who is approved.

Ive only had one in a very delicate space which was frozen and dropped off. I never did find it !!
