Cricket - a game for old bats?

Is cricket a world exclusively for men? Not according to Harry Pearson in his guest blog post as he paints an evocative picture of the Yorkshire terraces.

Add your comments - and you could win one of five copies of his new book, The Trundlers.

Yes! We did it, but a pity the end was clouded over (no pun) with poor light, I think we could have won the last game, we were certainly in there with a chance. What a laugh to see the England supporters having a chance to cheer their team, although I must admit I felt really sorry hmm for the Australian bolwers, but then I always seem to be on the losing side, so know what it's like to do your best and still lose.

Well, we did it without the help of the rain didn't we, and we did it in style. What a lovely day for English cricket, and all the fans, wish I had been there, all that excitement!

Yesterday evening on the t.v. (watched the days round-up of test match on 5), they were writing off England already! Why? I just do not understand this country sometimes, there are four mor days to go, and o.k., so our batsmen did not get amongst the runs, but for goodness sake, let's see how the Aussies get on (I may well live to regret this!)

Nonu Fri 09-Aug-13 17:04:31

Come ON England !! Lets be "avin" yer !!!

Nonu Fri 09-Aug-13 13:40:25

Stopped me doing some gardening this morning Nonu but I wasn't really in the mood and suspect I was using it as an excuse. grin

We live near Loughborough but DH is from Leicester and I'm from Derby. I don't go to the football but the rest of them are Nottingham Forest fans (COYR!!). We go to Trent Bridge when something exciting is happening although DH went to Grace Road in his youth as his father was a member. Nothing exciting happens at Grace Road nowadays though they have plans to redevelop in conjunction with the Leicester Riders.

Nonu Fri 09-Aug-13 12:08:56

Yes I was sorry to read of that Kittylester , how is the knee now ?

So presumably that means you live either in or near Nottingham ?

kittylester Fri 09-Aug-13 12:02:21

Humph!!

It really looked as though Notts were going to win for a while Nonu but it went downhill quite rapidly. It put them off their stride when that 6 hit my knee! grin

Nonu Fri 09-Aug-13 10:45:52

WELL DONE ESSEX , onwards & upwards !!!

smile

PRINTMISS Wed 07-Aug-13 08:11:22

I agree Kittylester, it is not good to win by default! However, the Aussies are not good losers are they? (I am now going to rush out of the room and be unavailable, in case there are any missiles from Australia).

Nonu Tue 06-Aug-13 10:14:33

Hi , Printmiss , well you know what I feel .

Still we live to fight another day eh !!

smile

kittylester Tue 06-Aug-13 09:49:19

I like cricket too Printmiss. smile

I'm a bit disappointed that it all ended as it did. England need to win the last two tests to emphasise their superiority! It's better to retain the Ashes by winning rather than not to lose them, don't you think?

PRINTMISS Tue 06-Aug-13 07:45:58

Well, we didn't actually win the latest game did we, but we certainly organised the weather! Probably not a lot of people here very bothered, but I do like cricket, all those lovely young men nicely dressed, getting themselves into some very interesting positions, and of course there is the batting and bowling. Come on, let's have some good old fashioned pride here, after all most of the England team are home-bred.

Nonu Fri 02-Aug-13 14:07:45

Hello GNHQ , I still have not received my copy of THE TRUNDLERS .

BOO HOO !!!

Nonu Fri 02-Aug-13 12:46:59

Printmiss , we could be twins , My Mum also worked on the Tote before she married "Dear old Dad" .

Goodwood certainly looks a lovely place , the thing I find with going racing it is a very tiring day !

Cricket , don"t know what has been happening this morning so will get back to you later !!!
