Grandkids and the summer holidays

I am gutted. My grandchildren live 3 hours away. I haven't been able to see them that often due to a not great relationship with my DIL It's been 12 years now up and down. I have though been able to have them once they were a little older (they are now. 12 and 9) for a few days in the summer holidays. My son left it to the last week of term to tell me that they were too busy this year....all 6 weeks ...and I wouldn't have them. I was devastated they always tell me on the phone how much they enjoy coming to see us. When I asked my son why they couldn't fit me in even if I picked them up and dropped them off he told me not to question their decisions! Very very sad, I may not now see them until a week or so before Christmas for a day or so. I have now planned other things in and have lots of interests but my heart is with the children. It helps to just share that . Thanks

So sorry to hear that jefm
Are they going to one of these summer camps or holiday clubs for much of the holiday?

I shall see some of mine, but have to wait a while to see the other one.

Keep busy and I hope you can keep phoning and maintaining contact.

jefm I am so sorry - I can only imagine the hurt and sadness. It seems so unfair that you were not kept informed and that your 2 GC will miss out on seeing you as much as vice versa.

I know it is no compensation, but would you be able to send your GC something in the post to show them that you are thinking of them over the holidays? My children loved getting parcels in the post from my mum and dad when we lived at a distance. They were thoughtful presents rather than expensive and became much anticipated - and then there was all the chat about them when we next met up.

Sorry if this feels too much - just so sad for you - and wiah there was some way to make it better - and so cross for you too! flowers xx

Thank you both no they aren't going off to summer camps this year it would be easier if they were and yes I do regularly send them letters and little gifts so that they know I am thinking of them x
