History book for a 6 year old.

My grandson (going to be 6 soon) is showing definite signs of being interested in history. I really want to encourage this, but I'm finding it hard to find a suitable book for him. I bought a Horrible Histories one - Britain and Ireland - this morning, but I think its too gruesome for his age. (It goes into tortue a bit explicitly!)

Has anyone got any ideas please?

Thank you Ganja for that nice message. So glad it was good. I find that the Saturday magazine in the Telegraph often has some excellent ideas on their children's page. Happy New Year to you and your family x
