I would like to thank you for my copy of The Thread, which arrived Friday morning. The timing was perfect as 'The Football' started Friday afternoon!
I have only managed to read the first chapter but I am hooked. I can see that a combination of my book and my knitting are going to get me through a very trying time this month.
Love to you all at Gransnet.

Bought The Thread on publication - brilliant as are her other two books - The Island and The Return. Such a good way to learn about history - wrapping brilliant stories into historical fact.

Thank you for my copy - a lovely surprise. About half way through and loving it in spite of sad start. She is a very good writer and The Island is one of my favourite books of all time. smile flowers

Thank you so much, my copy was awaiting me on my return from a lovely week in Majorca. I look forward to reading it

Sorry Josie
My comment was tongue in cheek as I guessed i had missed out on the chance to obtain a copy from gransnet. Have read the island and thought it was terrific so will definitely order it from amazon.

I have just started reading The Thread and I'm sure it will be a good read. I would like to ask Victoria how much research she does for her books and if she visits the places her books are set in. My favourite book ever is The Island I have heard a tv film has been made of it does Victoria know if there are plans to show it on UK TV.

Confession time now, I`m afraid. I couldn`t find the place to ask for a copy of The Thread, but did request a copy of the childrens book, The Queen`s Knickers. The latter hasn`t arrived, but The Thread did, for which I`m extremely grateful, but I hope that I haven`t "nicked" someone else`s copy, or that someone else doesn`t get The Queen`s Knickers instead!

merlotgran Tue 12-Jun-12 20:45:54

Same here, numberplease. Really enjoying it.

mrsmopp Tue 12-Jun-12 18:19:31

Have I missed something?
Where did you all get a copy of The thread?
Am I too late?? (I usually am... :-(

JosieGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 12-Jun-12 17:35:06

Hi netgran, we can't find an email entry from you for this book, we're afraid. There's still time to buy one on Amazon if you'd still like to join in!

my copy arrived on Saturday and it was a lovely surprise and I have hardly put it down since. Just finished now. I have never read any of Victoria Hyslop's books and I knew very little of the history of Greece but I felt I was walking the streets with the characters as well as learning a bit of history Thank you Gransnet I will look out for her other books now.

numberplease Tue 12-Jun-12 15:23:39

About halfway through it, and enjoying it more and more.

janthea Tue 12-Jun-12 14:20:41

netgran Mon 11-Jun-12 15:43:55

jeni Mon 11-Jun-12 14:57:33

My copy arrived at the weekend. Thankyou.

Have really enjoyed all her books, including The Thread. Obviously she has a great love for and knowledge of Greece and of European history too. I have learnt a lot from her books even tho' they are novels.

Victoria will be coming to Gransnet for a live webchat from 1-2pm on Wednesday 4 July - so if anything occurs to you while you're reading, do ask a question.

I do love "gory", Green, but do occasionally have a foray into other genres, just for a change. The Thread is the first one I`ve read by Victoria Hislop, and so far I`m really enjoying it.

Grandmanorm Sun 10-Jun-12 21:56:54

I have just finished it. It is superb, I have read all day, apart from meals, I just could not put it down. Thank goodness for the football as I have been silent most of the day!!!

greenmossgiel Sun 10-Jun-12 20:15:02

I've never read any of her books - what does she write? I know number has a strong preference for 'gory'!! (Don't think you'll get much of that from 'Silent Miaow', though, unless it's a chewed mouse, number)! grin

merlotgran Sun 10-Jun-12 20:14:12

Thank you for my copy. I've been looking after GDs all weekend so GS could go with his parents to his first rock concert at the O2. Look forward to starting The Thread tomorrow.

numberplease Sun 10-Jun-12 18:02:38

Have just started it, and think I`m going to really enjoy it.

Grandmanorm Sun 10-Jun-12 17:21:38

I have read The Thread all afternoon, it is a superb and engrossing book. Ah the joy of retirement and a rubbish afternoon with a good book!!! I am more than half way through. Thank you Gransnet.
