I am just keeping the recipe here. smile

Oh yes! The recipe!

Mam's Boiling Broonie

Grease and line loaf tin.

4 oz Marg. or Butter
1 cup of Water
Half-cup of Sugar (here you can add your choice of spices). I used 1 flat teaspoon of Cinnamon, and half-teaspoon of Cardamom seeds (crushed)
1 cup of Raisins
1 cup of Currants. (I don't use these. I replace with a mixture of chopped apricots and walnuts. Once I used a cup of dried cranberries and even a drop of sherry)
Teaspoon of Baking Soda
Teaspoon of Treacle

Boil for 15 mins. Cool then add 2 eggs and 2 cups of S.R. FLOUR (add a bit of milk if the mixture is too dry - but it shouldn't be)

Put in Loaf tin (and sprinkle on golden demerara sugar)

Bake at 180 (or equivalent) for about 40 - 45 mins.

It keeps well for about a week if well wrapped, and freezes well, too.

It's Butternut's recipe. I am going to make it tomorrow. smile

I will make it with Benecol Buttery so it does nothing but good.

This is NOT a post....sounds yummy, will try it as a change from a similar recipe in a Delia Austerity Cookbook, which is much less generous with fruit anyway!hmm

I'm eating some broonie now. Nice with coffee.

Notsogrand Tue 29-Nov-11 07:33:43

Definitely not posting. Will make this today with gluten free flour for DD.
I hope you're ignoring all these not posts jings! grin

Hey *jingl, why don't you just upload to the recipes section?

You can even add a recipe to your favourites to save it for later.

Not that we want to stop you from sharing it here too smile

I AM posting! Just sitting down after a baking (boiling?) session and have made my first broonie. Half an hour to go before I take it out of the oven - already looks scrumptious x

Notsogrand Tue 29-Nov-11 12:57:06

Mine's just come out of the oven and smells delicious. DD will be round later so can take it home with her.

Carol Tue 29-Nov-11 13:10:08

ow ow ow ow.... too hot still, but it really is lovely!

jingl Tue 29-Nov-11 15:58:50

Josie - much more fun doing it this way! [sink]

jingl Tue 29-Nov-11 15:59:05

No! wink

jingl Tue 29-Nov-11 16:00:33

It's Butternut's recipe actually. She can put it in the Recipes Section.

kittylester Tue 29-Nov-11 16:07:45

Notsogrand I'd love to know how it turned out - did you just substitute the flour or add anything in eg the dreaded Xanthan Gum? cupcake

Carol Tue 29-Nov-11 16:09:08

It's fabulous Butternut. Two slices gone since it came out of the oven, so it looks like its keeping qualities may not be tested!

Butternut Tue 29-Nov-11 16:19:37

Glad you liked it Carol - it's a winner.

Notsogrand Tue 29-Nov-11 19:36:53

Kitty it turned out really well using gluten free flour. I didn't add anything else. I haven't heard of the gum stuff you mentioned. It took over an hour to cook though, but I can't imagine that was caused by the flour. I'm not eating cake at the moment, but it was tested by 2 daughters and pronounced delicious.

gracesmum Tue 29-Nov-11 20:31:33

I wondered who Boiling Broonie was and why she was banned from posting!

kittylester Tue 29-Nov-11 21:49:28

Thank you Notso I have a wheat intolerance and am wary of baking by just substituting normal flour for GF flour but the GF recipes are sooooo complicated I tend to stick to tried and tested things, usually from Phil Vickery's book. I will definitely give this a try. Thanks again thanks

jingl Wed 30-Nov-11 11:42:55

Butternut - have you put it in the recipes bit?

Keep Jose happy. hmm

jingl Wed 30-Nov-11 11:43:39

Only you, Gracesmum. hmm

gracesmum Wed 30-Nov-11 13:02:59

sad sad sad I'll go away then.
But before I go, there should be another "e" on "please"

bagitha Wed 30-Nov-11 13:19:13
