My husband could not believe I had never eaten a donar kebab! I would not eat one now because I don't eat meat and wouldn't go near a kebab shop. My mum reached her 90's before trying pizza. I've never had a manicure or a pedicure.

Where you go to different houses for each course! I would never do it. I prefer to sit and eat relaxed style!

Greatnan Sun 13-May-12 20:39:53

nanaej - I can't think of anything I want less than to share my space with some old man!

Anagram Sun 13-May-12 20:49:15

Well said, Greatnan! I'm sure a lot of us secretly feel the same way.....wink

nanaej Sun 13-May-12 21:12:26

grannylin thought it might be eating ants and locusts! grin

greatnan am happy with my old man but not sure I would want to start again with a different one! But surprisingly my 2 friends seem v content with their new 'old' men!! Takes all sorts...

Grannylin Sun 13-May-12 21:16:51

It seemed to be the 'in' thing in our village in the 90's but we never got invited. Can't imagine anything worse, would have to drown pints of Gaviscon.

Greatnan Sun 13-May-12 21:38:35

I think there is something very nice about a couple who have grown old together - especially when they say 'He/she is just the same as the day we met.'
I am not in the least cynical about other people's pleasure in coupledom - it just isn't for me.

harrigran Sun 13-May-12 22:01:23

I have been with my old man for 49 years this July. I could not think of anything worse than having to get to know a new partner, I can hardly bear to look at myself in the mirror never mind bare all for someone else.

Hmmmm
I've never taken illegal drugs
Never been divorced.
Never been jealous.
Never gone out without my knickers on (even though I was once dared to)
Never willingly played any ball game, though I've been forced to at school.
Never willingly done the housework - but needs must, so I force myself.

PRINTMISS Mon 14-May-12 11:44:49

I was thinking about this whilst doing the ironing this morning, and I remembered that I used to say 'when I have arrived in this world' (meaning that I would have more than enough of everything to live on,) I would 'travel on the Orient Express from Victoria to Venice' (a friend did this and shared her memories with me, sounded good) 'have a penthouse flat over-looking the sea at Brighton' (I think that might be a bit lonely now) 'own a white Range Rover with a black top' (don't ask me why!). Achieved none of these, but then I really didn't expect to, and now wonder if it had been possible would I have done them? Doubt it - no sense of adventure me, just a dreamer.

soop Mon 14-May-12 11:48:08

...never darned a sock. shock

artygran Mon 14-May-12 13:29:32

'I have done more than some and a lot less than others' just about sums it up, but I have
never had an affair (just the odd harmless flirtation!);
never seen the Grand Canyon or the Great Wall of China;
never played the piano at the Albert Hall (they wouldn't ask me back!)
never sailed a boat (a real regret);
never learned to fish for trout (which I am going to rectify on Friday - with my luck, probably in hissing rain with a force 8 blowing);
never got onto a school sports team;
never dyed my hair
and, like ninnynanny, never had a manicure.

soop Mon 14-May-12 14:12:02

I've never yet met with a huge spider without suffering a fit of the vapours [and I've never knowingly killed one ] shock

Grandmanorm Mon 14-May-12 16:41:43

I have never smoked tobacco or done drugs, although I sometimes wonder if I were young now, would I try them. I hope I would not.
Never divorced or had an affair.
Never been in a helicopter or parachuted.
Like Joan never gone without my knickers, although been dared to.
And, like artygran, done more than some and less than others.

Anagram Mon 14-May-12 16:45:40

I've never had:

Mumps
Chickenpox
A massage, pedicure or manicure.

granjura Mon 14-May-12 17:19:47

Politics smile There was just no point in the UK, as the first past the post system meant that there was never ever a chance of being elected in your area if you live in a place radically opposed to one's opinions and 'principles'.

Here the system is vastly different and proportional, so it it worth getting involved. Was elected Councillor yesterday - so wish me luck.

Mamie Mon 14-May-12 17:25:03

Never lived in the same country as my grandchildren.

Humbertbear Tue 15-May-12 07:41:48

I have never been to a country where they speak German and I intend to keep it that way. I've also never seen The Mousetrap or had a row with my daughter in law. Let's hope we can keep it that way.

Humbertbear Tue 15-May-12 09:02:43

Dear JessM - you can play an organ in a large church. I bought my husband a session on the organ in Gloucester Cathedral ( when it was closed to the public). he can play but you don't have to be a musician at all - the organist will talk you through it. It was thru one of those special package companies ( no advertising).
I was just packing a birthday lunch to take to my son's house and I thought of the one thing I would love to do but probably never will: I have always wanted to be the guest on Desert Island Discs.

flowerfriend Tue 15-May-12 11:46:55

I have never been on a holiday on my own. I am thinking of doing so.

Annobel Tue 15-May-12 12:00:46

Well done, granjura. Good luck for your period of office. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did during my eight years - luckily I was in the ruling party in my authority, so could get things done.

soop Tue 15-May-12 13:12:59

I've never envied so-called celebs...which is just as well, as Mr soop can't play football grin

granjura Tue 15-May-12 15:49:56

Thanks Annobel - I think it is very sad that even today so few women are prepared to get involved. I often hear 'Oh, I don't like politics' and yet the current advert on the BBC says it all - politics is what decides on education, health, transport, our environment and so much more'.

Humbertbear - your comment re never visiting a country were German is spoken sounds a bit racist to me. Isn't it time to move on? Germany is actually a very beautiful country, and so is Austria and Switzerland (although I live in the French speaking part). Is your name John Cleese by any chance, lol?

ninathenana Tue 15-May-12 18:56:06

I have never:
Eaten veal
Flown in a helicopter
Been divorced/had an affair
Taken recreational drugs
Met royalty
Owned a horse sad
Climbed a mountain
Been up the eiffle tower
Been to USA
Swam with a dolphin sad
Sung in a choir....much to everyone's relief grin

granjura Tue 15-May-12 19:17:07

Shovelled snow in mid May - snowing heavily now - what, what?!?

Ganja Wed 16-May-12 07:55:24

Swum in an infinity pool, and now my days of being able to appear in public in a bathing cossie are long behind me!sad
