Words you don't like, please, ladies?

Are there any words which you find distasteful for any reason?
One which springs to my mind is 'panties'. It sounds so twee..

KIDS - they are baby goats not children - I absolutely hate to hear them being referred to as such.

Maggiemaybe Thu 31-Aug-17 18:40:59

Yep, both of those. I was once asked to answer some questions prior to testing some new knickers for Tesco home panel. They never arrived, probably because I'd irritated them so much moaning on about their use of the word panties!

Hubby.

Not a word, but the phrase which couples use 'we are pregnant'.. I find it hard to get my head around it. I suppose there are people who dislike 'getting my head around' too, though.

Jane10 Thu 31-Aug-17 18:42:30

The 'get go' is awful!

MissAdventure Thu 31-Aug-17 18:43:42

"Simples" gets on my wick.

Anya Thu 31-Aug-17 18:43:48

Here we go again.

Anya Thu 31-Aug-17 18:47:07

This subject has been done to death over the years and we just come across as grumpy old bats who have nothing better to do that get our knickers in a twist because someone calls us 'guys' or uses some other modern terminology that we 'don't like'.

What on earth possessed you MissA to start such a puerile thread? ???

MissAdventure Thu 31-Aug-17 18:48:48

Well, I haven't been here for years, and I didn't fancy checking back to make sure it hadn't been done before.
Plus, I'm really not worried what I come across as.

Anya Thu 31-Aug-17 18:49:58

Carry on then, if that's what floats your boat.

MissAdventure Thu 31-Aug-17 18:50:26

Oh thanks. grin

Jane10 Thu 31-Aug-17 18:59:35

Anya why have you come over all thread police? We've all got pet peeves. It's always reassuring to find we're not alone! smile

MissAdventure Thu 31-Aug-17 19:00:23

Yeah! So "go figure!"

Riverwalk Thu 31-Aug-17 19:06:22

C*nt and n*gger.

For obvious reasons.

Maggiemaybe Thu 31-Aug-17 19:06:22

Of course we'll keep repeating threads, because with any luck we'll keep getting new members joining in. And people like me, who completely forget what we said last time... grin

Maggiemaybe Thu 31-Aug-17 19:06:59

You've raised the bar there, Riverwalk. grin

MissAdventure Thu 31-Aug-17 19:08:46

Can't argue with those choices, riverwalk.

Wheniwasyourage Thu 31-Aug-17 19:12:48

'Panties' and 'hubby' are both high on my list too. I don't like 'ladies' when used by patronising men (usually men anyway) and particularly when used as the feminine version of 'men'. I'm a woman unless they are gentlemen! (I don't mind it when used as you have done, MissAdventure, as I am becoming mellower with age grin)

Anya, if your boat is not floating, why get into the water? There are plenty of us these days who seem to be avoiding various threads because they don't appeal to us. Perhaps you could leave those of us who are floating to get on with it.

MissAdventure Thu 31-Aug-17 19:13:40

At a dental appointment, in his lovely Irish accent, a dentist referred to my teeth as "guys". It made me smile, once I'd got out of the chair.

Wheniwasyourage Thu 31-Aug-17 19:14:32

Goodness Riverwalk, while I was thinking, you've put in a couple of beauties! Can I add b*t*h please?

MissAdventure Thu 31-Aug-17 19:16:51

Ah yes, "ladies" - that's always a bit of a risk, I think. I like to live dangerously. wink

Wheniwasyourage Thu 31-Aug-17 19:21:32

Well, at least you didn't call us c***s or b*t***s! grin

MissAdventure Thu 31-Aug-17 19:22:55

That would have made an interesting title to the thread!

Charleygirl Thu 31-Aug-17 20:58:34

Hearing women being addressed as "the wife". Does she not have a name?

MissAdventure Thu 31-Aug-17 21:03:59

I've heard one referred to as "the terminator".
