About a year ago I opened a thread about the pseudonoms that we choose to put on Gransnet.
The freshly scented Lemongrove
The mysterious Maggiemaybe ... maybe, maybe not!
Baggs I had such an image of you until I saw your lovely picture on another thread.
MawBroon such a name of authority and we certainly respect your words.
Anniebach you must be little, yet you are not!
And I could go on and on but i won't.
There were some lovely answers and now that we have a lot of new members with equally intriguing "nom-de-plumes", I thought I would ask again what made you choose yours ?
Do you escape into a fantasy world (BlueSapphire what magic that conjures up) , or are you practical (like me) and just put your name?
Please share.

Miep1 Thu 10-Jan-19 11:26:05

Miep is one of my cats

Greyduster Thu 10-Jan-19 11:31:27

This is me.

MiniMoon Thu 10-Jan-19 11:38:10

I was reading about Saturn, it's rings and moons, and thought that was a good name for me. Always been interested in astronomy. 🌙🌒🌘

Granny23 Thu 10-Jan-19 11:41:08

At first I was Granny to two, now I am Granny to three DGC

FarNorth Thu 10-Jan-19 11:47:38

I am in a location which is thought of, by many, as being in the far distance to the North of Britain.
(It's actually really beautiful here, and peaceful)

Grammaretto Thu 10-Jan-19 11:49:23

My first choices were already taken so I picked a mix of grandma and amaretto which I was sipping at the time. I haven't touched it since, in case you assumed I was an alcoholic.
So nothing to do with grammar.
I love many of your names. So clever.

Franbern Thu 10-Jan-19 11:52:04

My Mums name was Frances and Dads name was Bernard!!!!

cornergran Thu 10-Jan-19 11:59:04

I live on a corner. Not clever I'm afraid. smile

Culag Thu 10-Jan-19 12:34:52

Mine is just a lovely place I visited once.

LadyGracie Thu 10-Jan-19 12:45:28

After my beautiful cat

pensionpat Thu 10-Jan-19 12:49:02

I worked for DWP in pensions. I visited pensioners in their homes and referred to myself as Pensionpat. It amused them and me. I was sometimes asked if I had a black and white cat.

EllanVannin Thu 10-Jan-19 12:51:33

Mine is Manx for Isle of Man where my late mum was born.

boheminan Thu 10-Jan-19 12:51:34

Long purple hair, tattoos, chickens in the garden, no mobile phone, car or tv....tis the gypsy in my soul!

EllanVannin Thu 10-Jan-19 12:52:40

I like your style, boheminan. smile

Charleygirl5 Thu 10-Jan-19 13:20:58

Mine was the name of my last gorgeous cat. He was so timid he would miaow at somebody while standing behind me with his head peeking around my legs. I still miss him although he has been dead over 14 years.

KatyK Thu 10-Jan-19 13:26:04

I agree. Some lovely names. I chose a boring one. I wish I'd given it more thought.

paddyann Thu 10-Jan-19 13:27:07

It was what my lovely Granny called me ,she used to song an old Irish song about a girl called paddy to me and I loved it ...and her .

NanaandGrampy Thu 10-Jan-19 13:28:22

I needed to provide an email to register and we had a joint one we used for signing up to things - choosing it as my user name made it easier to remember lol

Jessity Thu 10-Jan-19 13:33:24

Jess but I always called her Jessity was our much-loved black labrador

grannysue05 Thu 10-Jan-19 13:35:29

Oh...lovely lovely answers.
Pecs are you super fit and pumping iron?
Soop do you love the real thing (Heinz) or do you make your own?
Panache a lady of incredible grace and style (so glad things are easier for her now)
boheminan I shall always picture you in a flowing gypsy skirt, tossing your wild hair.
Me .... well I too regret my hasty choice of just a name.
Now if i could have my time over again .... what would I choose?

Mamissimo Thu 10-Jan-19 13:35:40

Heaven only knows! I use it for everything but the reason is lost in the mists of time. 🙂

craftergran Thu 10-Jan-19 13:39:50

I do a lot of different crafts and I'm gran

tanith Thu 10-Jan-19 13:49:21

Mine was also a much loved cat she’s been gone 25 yrs, I found the name when I was visiting family in Wales and was told it meant Welsh witch but I’ve since discovered it has Semitic roots and means serpent lady or a Phoenician Goddess of love, fertility, the moon and stars.

Parsley3 Thu 10-Jan-19 13:50:49

There was a pot of it on the window ledge when I was choosing a name.

Carolina55 Thu 10-Jan-19 13:52:07

My dad used to call me/sing Carolina Moon as he said I was always daydreaming and I was born in 1955

SueDonim Thu 10-Jan-19 13:55:03

I stole mine from a novel I'd recently read.

glammanana Thu 10-Jan-19 14:00:34

My daughters friends used to always call me Mrs Glamma the reason being that I had to wear smart suits and glamm up for work every day.
When my first DGS was born it automatically transferred to glammanana and it has stayed the same ever since, although the smart suits have long been replaced for comfy casuals.

petra Thu 10-Jan-19 14:01:39

I'd just come back from holiday there.

farview Thu 10-Jan-19 14:23:58

Mine ..well bit boring and obvious but we do have views that stretch forever..I never tire of them and we get the most beautiful skies and incredible sunsets...

Suki70 Thu 10-Jan-19 14:25:11

Suki was the name given to one of our rescue kittens when she first came to us. DH didn't like the name so we changed it. 70 is wishful thinking, I'm way past that!

Witzend Thu 10-Jan-19 14:31:59

Mine was coined some years ago for another forum - for carers of people with dementia.
Nuff said really.

Maggiemaybe Thu 10-Jan-19 14:57:05

Mysterious, moi? grin

I am indeed Maggie, and my lovely dad used to serenade me with a rousing rendition of that very unsuitable song about the Maggie May who walked down Lime Street and loved all the sailors. When I registered, it seemed Maggiemay was already on here, so I added a little extra, that may or may not stand for my second initial. smile

Sparklefizz Thu 10-Jan-19 14:58:48

I fancied being something bubbly blush

NanTheWiser Thu 10-Jan-19 15:02:54

Well, I like to think I am a wise Nan, but maybe I'm none the wiser!

Bellanonna Thu 10-Jan-19 15:13:08

My name would be beautiful granny in Italian. I’m fibbing about the first bit.

sodapop Thu 10-Jan-19 15:44:16

Mine is our nickname for a much loved dog.

Cherrytree59 Thu 10-Jan-19 15:44:16

The lovely Cherry tree in my garden where I would sit in the shade rocking my beautiful first grandchildm.
The tree also shaded his pram whilst he had his naps. ( joy of a summer baby)

Every summer we have picnics with our three grandchildren under the shade of our cherry tree.sunshine

mumofmadboys Thu 10-Jan-19 15:51:54

I tried several which weren't accepted( ? already taken) and ended up mumofmadboys. Our sons are lively, noisy and a bit mad!!

Yiayia4 Thu 10-Jan-19 15:53:37

YiaYia is Greek for grandma and I have 4 grandsons

Billybob4491 Thu 10-Jan-19 15:58:46

I have two nephews William and Robert.

Buffybee Thu 10-Jan-19 16:03:50

I'm another one named after my much loved dog.
Buffy was named after the television show which was popular when she arrived fifteen years ago. Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Depending on how I feel she is called Buffbuff, Buffy Woof and of course Buffybee.

Tangerine Thu 10-Jan-19 16:08:12

I just wanted a name that wouldn't identify me but was a pleasant sounding noun.

PageTurner Thu 10-Jan-19 16:10:06

I'm always reading books.📕📗📘📙📚📖

BBbevan Thu 10-Jan-19 16:11:43

Mine is a mix of things in my life, and my initials.

eilyann Thu 10-Jan-19 16:21:28

I'm another one who uses my (Irish) grandmother's pet name for me. Is it a thing with Irish grannies that they lengthen rather than shorten names?

luluaugust Thu 10-Jan-19 16:26:23

Mine is my school nickname plus a memorable month

silverlining48 Thu 10-Jan-19 16:49:22

Mine is to remind me to always look for it...not always possible but try my best.

grannysue05 Thu 10-Jan-19 16:53:27

You are all so inventive.
I love the close association some of you have with much loved pets.
Back in the day we had a lovely cream labrador called Ben...
GrannyBen ?

callgirl1 Thu 10-Jan-19 16:55:00

And I`m definitely NOT a "lady of the night", just an ex telephone operator!

grannysue05 Thu 10-Jan-19 16:58:44

Oh Callgirl1 you have just spoiled the illusion.
Fishnet tights and an abandoned air!

Feelingmyage55 Thu 10-Jan-19 17:02:13

I always thought I felt younger than my age but life caught up with me a few years ago. I was feeling a little pessimistic when I first registered. Sometimes wonder about changing my user name but I have got used to it - and I can remember it!

MawBroon Thu 10-Jan-19 17:09:58

MawBroon was a nod to my Scottish Heritage and to the Sunday Post for whom my father started writing while still in his teens.

Day6 Thu 10-Jan-19 17:29:45

I am (in 'real life') known by six variations of my forename - different people from different times in my life call me slightly different things and always have. I conceived my username on a Saturday, so I became Day6, (I was going to call myself SaturdayGran but it was a bit much to type!) - and I have been asked if it's a biblical reference too!

I wish I had introduced myself to OH by one of the shortened forms of my name, but I gave him my full moniker when I met him, which I am not fond of, and he uses it. confused

grannysue05 Thu 10-Jan-19 17:33:04

Just out of interest what does the Broon part mean?
I imagine you striding about in the Highlands brandishing a cormach!

travelsafar Thu 10-Jan-19 18:12:25

Mine came about when i had booked a trip to India and it was the furthest I had ever travelled.

Nannylovesshopping Thu 10-Jan-19 18:41:14

Because I do😂

MawBroon Thu 10-Jan-19 18:45:44

Broon is Brown

kittylester Thu 10-Jan-19 18:46:05

Mine is a childhood nickname and my nearest city!

oldgaijin Thu 10-Jan-19 18:48:09

Some years ago, I stayed with my daughter who was working in Japan. She remarked that the locals didn't often see an old Gaijin (foreigner) so oldgaijin I have been since!

Blinko Thu 10-Jan-19 18:52:35

I'm loving all the explanations and wish I'd been more inventive with mine.

oldgaijin Thu 10-Jan-19 19:10:31

MawBroon...Iv'e just seen your picture on another thread and I imagined you as a battleaxe in a pinny, wielding a rolling wrong I was!

dragonfly46 Thu 10-Jan-19 19:17:31

I just love dragonflies and the year I was born. I use it for everything.

downtoearth Thu 10-Jan-19 19:46:26

Because I am

Doodle Thu 10-Jan-19 19:52:54

I was going to choose noodle but thought it made be sound a bit daft (probably more accurate that my eventual choice blush) so ended up with doodle.

Gagagran Thu 10-Jan-19 19:58:39

Mine is after my dear old Mum who had vascular dementia and as her memory got worse she used to say "Oh I'm going gaga". Hence Gagagran .

Katek Thu 10-Jan-19 19:58:48

I’m just boring.....abbreviation of my middle name and a random letter. I also forgot to put a fullstop in between! I suppose it could be taken as an ancient Egyptian pharaoh!

FarNorth Thu 10-Jan-19 20:06:43

Day6 did you never have an opportunity to mention to your DH that you'd prefer a different version of your name?

DiscoGran Thu 10-Jan-19 20:49:11

Mine is because i boogie around the kitchen to the radio. Keeps me fit!

Grannybags Thu 10-Jan-19 20:56:52

The bags bit is part of a family nickname for me. When I first became a Granny my brother phoned and said "Hello Grannybags" so it sort of stuck!

lemongrove Thu 10-Jan-19 21:16:25

My fragrance is Chanel No 5 Sue smile
For anyone who is interested, we stayed in a lovely lemon grove on the Amalfi Coast, and I do like a slice in my G&T.
Love the cat pics on here....more please!

Apricity Thu 10-Jan-19 21:33:18

I chose the name Apricity because it's an old word meaning the warmth of the sun in winter which is the way I feel about my life now. 🌞

lovingit Thu 10-Jan-19 21:47:25

chosen on a very good day

DanniRae Thu 10-Jan-19 21:55:22

I couldn't possibly say! blush

Lollin Thu 10-Jan-19 21:57:46

Enforced "laziness" brought me to Gransnet so when i decided to start posting i thought it described my state - lolling - but i accidentally missed off the g.

Purpledaffodil Thu 10-Jan-19 22:15:09

A site I was using (cannot remember the name of it) asked for favourite colour and favourite flower to create a user name. Not sure why I chose daffodil as I prefer roses🤪

Marmight Fri 11-Jan-19 00:43:30

Just a play on the spread. You might like me or you might not! (also Mar is part of one of my names)
Confused Moi? confused

Ailsa43 Fri 11-Jan-19 01:22:04

It's my name, and the numbers are just random

Grandma2213 Fri 11-Jan-19 02:09:42

I just picked something that was not recognisable with numbers significant only to me. How boring! some of you are so inventive.

sukie Fri 11-Jan-19 03:16:32

Interesting and fun post! My father would sometimes call me Sukie when I was little. It is one of the few personal memories I have of him as there were a lot of children and he worked long hours before passing away when I was a young teen.

BlueBelle Fri 11-Jan-19 03:24:32

Mines very boring and factual I have thought of changing it and I know just what I d change it to, my grandads nickname for me but it would feel wrong posting under another name so I ll stick to wafting in the breeze every spring

absent Fri 11-Jan-19 03:44:53

When I joined Gransnet at its beginning I lived in the UK and my daughter and grandchildren lived in New Zealand, so I was physically absent from their lives most of the time, although not, I hope, emotionally. She still lives in NZ, but now so do I, having emigrated from the UK nearly six years ago. However, lots of people on Gransnet know me as absent, so I left it how it was.

Marelli Fri 11-Jan-19 05:28:59

The first 3 letters of each of my daughters' names and the first letter of my son's name.

BradfordLass72 Fri 11-Jan-19 06:44:56

I'm beginning to wish I hadn't chosen something so mundane but I was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire 72 years ago.
I now live in an environment about as different as it gets from that cold northern city.
I'm in the South Pacific.

baubles Fri 11-Jan-19 09:28:19

Firstly I was my name spelled backwards but that was quickly ditched in favour of baublesbanglesandbeads, however I soon shortened it to just baubles.

Teetime Fri 11-Jan-19 09:45:29

My is very obvious - I play golf- that's where I am going now. Bye xx

David1968 Fri 11-Jan-19 09:49:49

I'm a woman and a grandma. Being a bear of little brain, I just didn't grasp how my username would always appear - I guess I was thinking "password" at the time....
I'd change it to "the GN poster previously known as: David 1968", but I think that's too long.

Coconut Fri 11-Jan-19 10:14:52

Obsessed with the smell .... shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, candles, Malibu 🥥🍾🤣

Urmstongran Fri 11-Jan-19 10:16:19

I suppose mine was practical- just the place we live. I’m curious as to why some monikers use numbers. Why? I don’t see the need really.

Horatia Fri 11-Jan-19 10:19:11

A horse known to me.

nettyandmasey Fri 11-Jan-19 10:21:04

Mine is my name I go by rather then full name and the name of my beloved Cavalier who I bought when my partner died. It’s a different spelling of his surname. Have also lost my dog now but he got me and the children through a dark times. Xx

25Avalon Fri 11-Jan-19 10:23:46

I wasn't allowed Avalon which I wanted. Avalon is the Isles of Apples. I decided to be Silver Apples which I coded as 25Avalon.

libra10 Fri 11-Jan-19 10:27:19

Mine is my birth sign.

Craftycat Fri 11-Jan-19 10:28:03

Easy- I have always had multiple cats in the house & I am a crafter.

moggie Fri 11-Jan-19 10:30:29

Mine is nick name from my teenage years. This is Lexy my Dd’s Dog

missdeke Fri 11-Jan-19 10:30:53

Mine was given to me by a young Turkish lad I was helping with his English.

Magicmaggie Fri 11-Jan-19 10:31:48

It was my professional name for many years of entertaining

allsortsofbags Fri 11-Jan-19 10:32:10

Mine came from a conversation DDs had. DD1 asked DD2 if she had a certain type of bag for an occasion.

She said no but ask mum she has "all sorts of bags".

Yes I did have the type of bag DD1 needed to borrow grin

I could also have chosen "Too many scarfs" too grin

paperbackbutterfly Fri 11-Jan-19 10:32:22

I read a lot and I'm a librarian so I have several books ' on the go' at once and flit from one to another like a butterfly with several beautiful flowers to feed from.

Matriarch Fri 11-Jan-19 10:41:56

I’m the oldest woman in our family. Although it makes me sound a bit domineering , I really hope I’m not !!!
