Tinned fruit?
I have just done an online food order and one of the special offers that came up was
tinned pears.
I can't remember the last time I ate tinned fruit of any sort.
It reminds me of Sunday tea with the Aunts, peaches and evaporated milk after tinned salmon and lettuce with salad cream

I make a mean peach chutney with tinned peaches and toasted black mustard seeds, but straight out o the tin? can't remember how long that's been!

Don't know why we don't - apart from not eating formal teas now - as they still count as one of your 5 a day (as long as they aren't in syrup).

I love tinned apricots and buy a tin now and then to have with my cereal. I also buy tinned rhubarb in the Winter for crumble or rhubarb and custard. Yummy.

I really cannot remember. Used to love tinned mandarin oranges with custard. They will have to go on the list.....

We eat tinned pineapple often on a Gammon Steak or to make a salsa.

I buy tinned pianeapple ,my OH likes it on toasted cheese

Beechnut Thu 12-Sep-19 14:49:06

I like that paddyann . I put my pineapple underneath the cheese before toasting.

I quite like the mandarin segments, and think I may have a couple of tins in the cupboard.

I'll have to find them.

Tinned grapefruit's lovely. No faff and you get a lot for your money.

Maggiemaybe Thu 12-Sep-19 14:57:06

Oh, and tinned mango makes a good lassi. Much cheaper than the fresh ones.

kittylester Thu 12-Sep-19 15:24:14

Oooh, I quite fancy tinned pears now.

I used to love tinned mandarins too but haven't had them for ages.

Night before last !
DH and enjoy tin fruit and ice cream for dessert on the odd occasion we have dessert

Gonegirl Thu 12-Sep-19 16:06:36

Me too Tanith - tinned rhubarb for a winter crumble.

The slice of tinned pineapple under toasted cheese is a great idea.

Teetime Thu 12-Sep-19 16:20:47

I buy tinned grapefruit in juice to have for breakfast - its nice chilled in the fridge- I find cutting up fruit difficult at the best of times.

Calendargirl Thu 12-Sep-19 16:22:18

As a child I thought peaches came sliced up in a tin, in heavy sweet syrup. Was ages before I realised they were proper whole fruit!

BlueSapphire Thu 12-Sep-19 16:24:22

I have tinned pineapple and apricots in the cupboard, and late DH used to love a roast ham joint with baked tinned peaches. The pineapple is for sweet and sour chicken or a gammon steak or extra to go on DGD's Hawaian pizza. Also love tinned mandarins.

EllanVannin Thu 12-Sep-19 16:39:46

I've got a tin of crushed pineapples in the fridge so I'm on the hunt for coconut ice-cream to have with them.

grannyactivist Thu 12-Sep-19 16:45:24

I've recently had tinned grapefruit for breakfast and used a tin of mandarin oranges in a jelly.

MissAdventure Thu 12-Sep-19 16:52:06

I really fancy some icecream now, with my mandarin pieces.
It makes the icecream go all curdled and lovely!

grannylyn65 Thu 12-Sep-19 16:58:02

Actually just finished a tin ?

MiniMoon Thu 12-Sep-19 17:00:31

I like to make a fruit crumble with canned fruit now and then.
We had a tin of fruit salad with jelly and ice cream just a few weeks ago.

M0nica Thu 12-Sep-19 17:12:43

I always have a couple of tins in the larder. They make an ideal desert when nothing else is available. I loathe do not like yoghourt or most of those yoghourt looking like pots with dessertds in them in the cool cabinet, so tinned fruit is an obvious replacement.

I get the fruit in fruit juice and prefer peach, pineapple, clementines and fruit salad, but rarely go beyond that small collection.

SirChenjin Thu 12-Sep-19 17:20:47

I’m very partial to tinned prunes and will sometimes throw the youngest Chen some tinned fruit if I feel like he hasn’t been eating enough fruit

lemongrove Thu 12-Sep-19 17:23:11

Had some tinned breakfast apricots on pancakes with plain yoghurt just this morning.?
Delicious.
