We have just put the house on the market and have a viewing on Friday.

Leave tree and decorations up, or get them down?

Calendargirl Sun 29-Dec-19 18:58:02

Take down.

tanith Sun 29-Dec-19 18:58:44

Down.

Opal Sun 29-Dec-19 18:58:52

Definitely take down

Urmstongran Sun 29-Dec-19 19:00:11

Down.

Callistemon Sun 29-Dec-19 19:00:34

Yes, down, and leave any ornaments etc you put away for Christmas still boxed up.

Minimalist sells.

You could just leave the tree if it looks lovely, with the lights on?

TrendyNannie6 Sun 29-Dec-19 19:00:37

I wouldn’t have them up def not. It’s not Christmas and the rooms will look much better. Good luck

B9exchange Sun 29-Dec-19 19:01:47

Take them down, it will be virtually 12th night anyway, and the prospective buyers will have Christmas behind them and be looking forward to moving in the Spring.

Oopsminty Sun 29-Dec-19 19:02:53

Depends really

Traditionalists would wonder why they're down

If they look beautiful it might help

To be honest I doubt it will change the viewer's mind

Pantglas2 Sun 29-Dec-19 19:04:34

Down. Everything will look tidier, more room etc

Cherrytree59 Sun 29-Dec-19 19:12:05

Down.
Fresh flowers and/or bowl of hyacinths.
Primroses by the front door.

Jessity Sun 29-Dec-19 19:34:08

Down.

Also remove family photos and little ornaments, anything too personal, so purchasers can easily think themselves into living there.

EllaKeat Sun 29-Dec-19 20:15:43

Thank you! To be honest, I usually have everything down and away on the 2nd, but wanted to check?

TerriBull Sun 29-Dec-19 20:17:23

Whenever I've looked on RightMove and seen houses with Christmas descorations, sometimes that has been later on in the year, it smacks of "oh that's been hanging around since Christmas", I know the date the property is first put on the market is on the particulars, but Christmas decorations is a visual reinforcement of the time that has elapsed.

BlueBelle Sun 29-Dec-19 20:17:44

Down for sure

BBbevan Sun 29-Dec-19 20:57:49

HettyMaud Sun 29-Dec-19 21:00:28

Leave up...so many times on Escape to the country..people mention where the Christmas tree is going..I'd definitely leave it up...creates a picture...

Scribbles Sun 29-Dec-19 21:43:57

Christmas decs down.
Fresh flowers but, please, no hyacinths. They're lovely but the scent can be overpowering and can cause headaches.

NotTooOld Sun 29-Dec-19 22:34:38

Decs down, I think, and ornaments mostly put away. Flowers in a vase look good, though. Good luck with the viewing!

Maggiemaybe Sun 29-Dec-19 23:05:30

I suppose it depends how good your decs are. smile I think our house looks better with them up - and as a traditionalist, I like to see them up until Twelfth Night. Perhaps just leave the tree and some lights?

Callistemon Sun 29-Dec-19 23:32:04

You could take the cards down (too personal) and leave one or two 'classy' decorations up, but not too many.

Naty Mon 30-Dec-19 01:20:53

Down plus proper staging. Open all windows a few hours before for an air out. Then boil water and cinnamon with orange peels before people go over to make it smell lovely and warm.

No crazy artwork or clutter.

Naty Mon 30-Dec-19 01:22:51

Take down personal pictures and knick knacks.

Yehbutnobut Mon 30-Dec-19 08:44:09

Down
