Well, whaddya think?

I thought he came across very well. No long words. No faffing. Plain and simple.

Ohmother Sun 10-May-20 19:21:47

Too much thanking...we’ve heard it all before. Details of speech to come out tomorrow on 50 page document. Not good enough.

phoenix Sun 10-May-20 19:23:46

A load of waffle, no clear guidelines at all!

Oopsadaisy3 Sun 10-May-20 19:25:46

Apart from being able to drive somewhere to exercise and being bale to go to work if we are unable to work from home, much the same as now.
I feel sorry for those whose Employers will guilt them into trying to get into the office, by bike or car, whether or not they are working from home successfully.

Daisymae Sun 10-May-20 19:27:30

Go back to work tomorrow, but not on public transport. How do jobs get Covid clearance? But increased fines for not being socially distanced?? Then there's that scale thing. We were 4 but now a high 3. I think that it's very muddled.

BlueSky Sun 10-May-20 19:29:47

Agree Gabriella even I understood!

Oopsadaisy3 Sun 10-May-20 19:31:56

I think we should have stayed as we were for a bit longer, when the number of deaths reduce, no news of the deaths in the past 24 hours though.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 10-May-20 19:32:03

Gov.co.uk has all the details for employees/businesses regarding safe working practices from today.

GabriellaG54 Sun 10-May-20 19:32:54

No. We're still a 4.
What more could he say?
It's clear that we cannot move to the next level unless conditions are met.
Those who cannot work from home are back at work as long as those workplaces satisfy unions and employees that Covid distancing and sanitising are in place.
Those who can work from home but could go into work, can do so if they and their employers agree.

phoenix Sun 10-May-20 19:33:15

I understood what he said, but didn't think it was strong enough.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 10-May-20 19:33:26

The deaths up till 5pm yesterday have been released, cannot remember exact numbers I think approx 290

GabriellaG54 Sun 10-May-20 19:36:13

Workers are encouraged to drive, cycle or walk.
We can drive to other places and socialise with family only, but still keeping social distancing.
These are the rules until we get below -1R

Nannytrace Sun 10-May-20 19:36:17

Why would employers guilt people into going in, if they are successfully working from home? That wouldn’t make any sense.

Daisymae Sun 10-May-20 19:37:54

He actually told people to go back to work tomorrow. No mention of assessment etc. I predict a muddle in the workplace in the morning

Jane10 Sun 10-May-20 19:38:08

It was better than I'd thought it would be. Quite straightforward and qualified all the way. I'll look forward to hearing more specific detail tomorrow.
Boris haters will hate. There's no getting away from that.

Daisymae Sun 10-May-20 19:38:32

Obviously people who can work from home should continue.

GabriellaG54 Sun 10-May-20 19:40:08

There will be naysayers on both sides of the argument. Suffice to say he has told us all we need to know...for now. We don't need TMI.
As long as each if us are aware that breaking or disregarding these rules to the detriment of others will incur a fine of £3k.

GabriellaG54 Sun 10-May-20 19:41:23

are is

JenniferEccles Sun 10-May-20 19:42:25

I thought it was a good speech.
There was no waffle whatsoever .
The facts were set out clearly and concisely, and we were given an approximate timetable for what will happen and when.

GabriellaG54 Sun 10-May-20 19:46:41

I doubt he said anything about employers sending their employees on a guilt trip.
I'm sure if people can successfully do their work from home, they will be allowed to do so.
As far as my own experience is concerned, talking to an individual who is working from working from home is not great or even good as connections and clarity are dreadful.

Daddima Sun 10-May-20 19:47:25

He said he had consulted with all 4 countries of the United Kingdom. I don’t believe him.

Wibby Sun 10-May-20 19:47:25

Far far too early to ease the restrictions mentioned. The 'stay alert' he mentioned the majority of us have been doing that anyway!

ginny Sun 10-May-20 19:47:29

Perfectly clear as far as I can see.

Pittcity Sun 10-May-20 19:48:50

I agree with Keir Starmer, who commented after the PMs statement, that there are a lot of questions to answer and going back to work with 12 hours notice would be difficult.
I think Boris said it like it is with less waffle than usual but with so much left to be interpreted there will be confusion.

Hetty58 Sun 10-May-20 19:51:23

It was better than I expected. At least we have an idea of what is planned for later on. I'm glad that not much has changed though, as it's too soon to think of ending lockdown.
