I have just been listening to Local Radio where listeners phoned in to describe odd things in their living room.

One listener had a church stained glass window propped up by the wall, the only problem was there was no glass it it grin

We have an ornamental elephant that my DH has put a light in to shine through the holes. It looks great.

What do you have at your house ?

A chunk of wood. I love solid wood. Would love to be able to make something with it but I'm not creative. Funny thing is no-one has EVER asked about it.

A beautiful black old three legged milking stool love the wood and the worn look on the seat I have a plant on it like moocow I LOVE wood

A rather odd looking bronze hare ornament. One ear got snapped off and OH "mended" it, but he didn't have a very steady hand and the ear is now at a 90 degree angle. The hare looks bizarre but OH is so delighted with his handiwork that I haven't the heart to get rid. Yet.

Stones are my odd thing, I collect pebbles whenever we walk a beach they are in groups or a larger stone on the hearth .

A piece of Bog Yew ploughed up on the fens. About 5000 yrs old.

Oh yes, I have a collection of stones on display in a disused fireplace. I know where many of them came from: the first one in my collection, from seashore in Ireland, a smooth orange stone from a river in the USA, slate from Cumbria, pebbles from the local beach, sand-rock from Tunisia, etc.

A wooden Garuda statue and a giraffe. I love to bring something back from my holidays.

Tanith I thought I was the only one I have pebbles in all little odd corners I love them I found one that looks just like a pair of lips and another that resembles a boob but mostly are just prettily marked pebbles big and small I LOVE them I often get teased by my grandkids about my pebbles but they mean more to me than expensive knick knacks

BBbevan Tue 26-Sep-17 06:47:04

We use large pebbles as door stops. DH often scores goals with them. ?

Imperfect27 Tue 26-Sep-17 06:52:27

DH, of course ... and shelves of quite rare theology books.

kittylester Tue 26-Sep-17 07:08:55

A couple of shelves of very old (they were very, very old when we acquired them about 40 years ago!) dental text books.

A miniature bowler hat. My late Dad always wore a bowler and when he retired a patient gave him this odd little memento.

Mr Absent.

A big bowl of shells from all the beaches I've ever been on - always bring back a couple. Similarly sea glass.

I also have a piece of pit prop shaped into a modernistic head and shoulders of a woman which I was given in 1963 after admiring it in a friend's house. Her husband had made it for her and she hated it and I loved it - and still do. You can see lines of coal embedded in the grain.

5 very small china owls, well 4 adults and a baby owl. Belonged to my mother. I hope they give me wisdom.

An old oak corner table with barley sugar twist legs. It looks totally out of sync with everything else, but it belonged to my mother, and she was fond of it, so it is staying! In the dining room we have a cabinet full of oddities.
