Fridge door left open

Went out to DD's today - left about 12, returned about 8 pm. Fridge door was not properly closed when I got back.

Bacon (in sealed packet) was not cold; lots of yoghurts felt only a bit cold. Rest of things I am not bothered about: hard cheese, eggs, veg etc.

Would you eat the yogs and bacon?

Yes

POGS Sat 19-Jan-19 21:20:49

I would.

lemongrove Sat 19-Jan-19 21:24:11

Yes, but eat them soon.

JoyBloggs Sat 19-Jan-19 21:27:11

Yes, I'd eat them, but in the next couple of days.

Yes, well not the yoghourt I HATE yoghourt, but DH would eat it. He is the one I buy it for.

Yes.

Yogurt and bacon butties for breakfast, lunch and dinner smile

We're not in the middle of a heatwave at the moment and we used to only have cool larders.

Yes. Years ago people didn't even have fridges and I bet they ate bacon etc. that had just been stored in cupboards

Bathsheba Sat 19-Jan-19 23:00:18

Yes I would. Platefuls of bacon butties for breakfast, what's not to like? grin

How did our grannies manage with just a marble pantry shelf! It will be ok!

BlueBelle Sat 19-Jan-19 23:11:58

But bacon and yogurt won’t go off in a day it doesn’t even have to be kept in a fridge it ll last a few days

SpringyChicken Sat 19-Jan-19 23:22:24

Yoghurt is made in warm countries as a means of preserving milk without refrigeration. It'll be fine. The bacon will too.

Of course. smile This happened to me once on Christmas Eve, because the fridge was too full of goodies to shut easily. We ate everything and lived to tell the tale.

DanniRae Sun 20-Jan-19 08:55:43

Yes I would eat it.
Who got the blame for leaving the fridge door open? shock

harrigran Sun 20-Jan-19 09:08:41

Yes I would eat it.
When we were first married we didn't have a fridge nor did we have a larder with cool shelves.

Anja Sun 20-Jan-19 09:14:59

Yes

GabriellaG54 Sun 20-Jan-19 09:21:19

Of course. Would have still been ok after 24-48 hrs.
Yogurts are lovely if partly frozen. I always put my Activia in the bottom of my freezer. Yummy.

Freeze the bacon, take out the rashers you want one by one, greaseproof paper between each ‘rasher or two’ eat the youghurt on your breakfast cereal

Hollydoilly10 Sun 20-Jan-19 09:40:00

yes I would freeze what I don't use in the next couple of days and cook it straight from frozen. I wrap it in parchment paper so it is separate.
The yoghurt you will know if its off or not and eat accordingly.
We didn't used to have sell by days we just check to see if it was ok.

To be frank, unless someone is living in an extremely hot country with no AC in the kitchen, I do wonder at any intelligent person asking this.

No wonder there is so much wanton waste of food in this country.

Allykat1946 Sun 20-Jan-19 09:51:01

Eat it all,,, our freezer door was partly left opened all night and there was no ice left only dripping water but we left all the meat etc where it was and let it freeze over again, nothing wrong with it,, todays food has so many preservatives added to it that it will last for weeks.

Luckygirl Sun 20-Jan-19 09:52:24

The question is far from academic here as OH is very frail indeed and a bout of food poisoning would carry him off. That is why this intelligent person is asking the question.

The idea of wasting the food is appalling to me - but so is killing him off.

Bacon is fine as long as it's not green and I've eaten previously unopened yogurt 6 weeks after their use by date.

Oooh! Not sure about the refreezing of defrosted meats, Alleycat - I think I would have had a big cook off first then refreeze ?
