Sorry, I pinched this from Mumsnet. My family via WhatsApp are coming up with all sorts of answers

Curlywhirly Sun 29-Mar-20 16:52:43

Well: shoes = 10; man = 5; chips = 2 per cone.

So: 5 + (5 +4) × 2 = 28?

There is only 1 shoe, so that = 5. The man has 2 cones of chips in his hands, so that is 5 + 4. I am hopelss at maths, so could be wildly wrong.

This is the same puzzle as the other one on the go only with different pictures

So same answer = 43 if you do the multiplying first, or 48 if you add the 5 to the 19 before multiplying by 2

There is already a similar thread.
He is also wearing shoes.
I make the answer 43.

Bathsheba Sun 29-Mar-20 16:56:51

Exactly the same as the other puzzle. Now the man is wearing trainers and is carrying two cones of chips. Answer is still 43 (always do multiplication and division before addition and subtraction)

I never get these correct lol

Sorry, I saw the other thread after I posted this.

10+ (5*4) = 30

Pikachu Sun 29-Mar-20 18:36:22

10 + (2*5) = 20

I can’t see it clearly though

littleflo Sun 29-Mar-20 20:10:49

Have you tried tapping on it to bring it up clearer.

Soz...60

GabriellaG54 Sun 29-Mar-20 20:16:32

Er...last effort...40.

GabriellaG54 Sun 29-Mar-20 20:20:30

CurlyWhirly...you are so perceptive.
Firstly, I didn't look at his shoes on the last line
Second, I didn't notice the cone of chips he carries so my final answer is 48

Urmstongran Sun 29-Mar-20 20:30:50

After 4 tries Gabriella .... would you like to phone a friend?
Hehe!
?

Urmstongran Sun 29-Mar-20 20:34:41

It’s 19 (I think)

The sneakers are 10 each
The boys are 5
The chips are 4

?

Urmstongran Sun 29-Mar-20 20:36:48

Oh yes, the sneakers are 10 for a PAIR

So only 5 + 5 + 4 = 14

Can I ask the audience??

Urmstongran Sun 29-Mar-20 20:40:51

Oh no! I didn’t spot the multiplication sign on the last line.
No wonder my teachers used to say on reports ‘needs to pay more attention’.
?

Lolo81 Sun 29-Mar-20 20:42:21

I think it’s 15
My logic (take with a pinch of salt lol)

Each individual shoe is worth 5
Each man is worth 5
Each individual cone is worth 2

So multiply first 2x5=10 then +5=15

I think anyway grin

Jomarie Sun 29-Mar-20 20:42:36

Can't do them but I love them !! grin

It would be useful if people showed how they arrive at their answer instead of just posting the figure with no calculations.

Shoes - 10 per pair, so 1 shoe = 5
Man = 5
Chips - 2 cones = 4, so 1 cone = 2

In the last row the man is wearing 2 shoes and carrying 2 cones of chips. So man (5) + 10 (shoes) + 4 (chips) = 19

Therefore last row: 5 + 19 x 2 = 5 + 38 (always do multiplication before addition) = 43

So the answer is 43

littleflo Mon 30-Mar-20 08:44:00

Ok using BODMAS, imagine there are brackets around the little man. Add up everything he is wearing and holding and multiply by the value of the cone. Then add the value of the shoe = 43.

Not only did I not get the right answer myself, but when I was told it, I had to have explained (more than once) by my GD.

The best thing about this puzzle was, it entertained the family quite a bit and made a nice change from all the terrible lockdown jokes they are posting.
