Where to buy plants during lockdown?

It's almost the Easter weekend and if we can't be spending it with our family or friends (although at HQ we're desperately hoping the Easter bunny is exempt from social isolation) we may as well make the most of the good weather. For those of you with gardens, this is the perfect time to spruce them up in time for summer.

As most garden centres are closed for the foreseeable future we wanted to get everyone's tips and recommendations on buying plants and flowers while we are all on lockdown. From perennials to bedding plants, seeds, garden furniture and everything else, we'd love to know where you are getting your gardening supplies?

Crocus is good for onlineplants

Whitewavemark2 Wed 08-Apr-20 14:15:45

Yes Crocus for me too. I also use specialist nurseries e.g. for roses or rhododendron

I’m waiting for some summer bedding plant, , tuberose, dierama, a pot and compost???

I may have got carried away.

Online for a few plants (and many seeds), cuttings from last year, one bag of compost from the milkman - the rest from our own bins.

Otherwise, making do with what we have. I've dug up, divided and moved many things.

It's just inappropriate to even consider buying new garden furniture right now.

I saw on some of my Facebook groups that a lot of local garden centres are delivering. All their stock is going to waste otherwise. Worth calling them up if you're looking? Suttons is another option for seeds and plants - although I did try earlier to get on their site and was held in a queue. Clearly many people with same idea!

I've ordered from Gardening Direct a couple of times in the past week. I've used them before and the plants were good.

Our local nursery is delivering direct to customers’ homes. Worth giving your local nursery a call. All those young plants need a home!

My daughter and granddaughter have planted the seeds from the tomatoes and peppers they had for lunch.
They're germinating nicely!

idealworld.tv and gardenbargains.com are good sites as well as thompsonandmorgan.co.uk , the TV show is on Sunday mornings.
Local garden centres are taking email and phone orders and if very close leave at their gate for collection or can deliver for a small charge.. My local one has been leaving cages of spring plants on the roadside for key workers to take for nothing.

Hetty58 Wed 08-Apr-20 19:13:10

My local garden centre does click and collect or free delivery!

I got roundly castigated for ordering non-essential items on another thread, putting people's lives in danger, working in warehouses, delivering etc.
So it's interesting that GNHQ has started this thread Lara

Thank you, much appreciated.

My local Aldi had bedding plants and lovely Clematis on Saturday.
