Greetings from a freezing Melb. As forecast, a “beast from the South” arrived today and will be around at least for the rest of the week. Temps. 1C rising to 5C. Even some snow in nearby hills, causing the TV News to go into raptures; all 0.5 cms of it!
Fame at last! The Council lady has deemed one of GreatNans jokes suitable for publishing in the Council’s anti-Covid newsletter. There are more than enough in our stockpile to outlast this pandemic!
That’s OK Megs Vera died on Christmas Eve 2015 in the hospital’s palliative care ward, just a few weeks after “all- over cancer” was diagnosed. and 4 days after our 62nd. anniversary. She was quite calm about the news and immediately told the specialist that she wanted no chemo.
Being 86 and having worked as a medical secretary all her working life she knew there would be no quality of life and we all respected her decision with no dramas.
At least she still had all her marbles to the end!

I’ve still many memories having thrown nothing out, but unlike you, it will involve a giant rubbish skip! No 2 Son has already said many times that he’ll toss out all my treasured souvenirs of my DIY projects; old chisels, hammers, off-cuts tins of paint etc. etc. He’s not a graduate of the “make do and mend” era! If something doesn’t work toss it out and buy a new one! I try not to think about it sad

I can understand your husband’s reluctance about shopping; I'd think the same, fearing to touch anything. Wearing a mask wouldn’t bother me and on that point I think appropriate masks make some of the ladies look quite mysterious! wink

Michael Portillo was riding the rails in Vietnam this evening and whilst the scenery was spectacular, he was still on about “fish dishes” and in particular a local delicacy, “fish sauce” which looked revolting whilst being made in a barrel! Just as well I’d already had my smoked cod and 3 veg. for evening dinner! and it’s stayed down. hmm
Goodness me, it’s Wednesday already!

We don't have a beast from the east but a pest from the west, Rufus2 it has poured all day and the road was flooded when I took my dgs back home. Horrible! It is nice to hear about your lovely wife. You must miss her. I know mum still misses dad dreadfully after ten years. I'm having a very lazy evening after two days babysitting. Tomorrow I'll visit mum in the morning then a video chat with friends in the afternoon. Take care x

Pouring with rain here. I've got my winter slippers on and cosy long sleeved jumper. I quite like it. A good excuse to avoid my walk and to watch TV all afternoon. Currently binging on the Sopranos.
Gransnet Zoom session tomorrow morning. Always good chat. It's just us usual lot who meet up for lunches.
I'm glad you have such good memories of your late wife. A sensible woman by the sound of it.
Oh well. Back to the Sopranos. Someone's bound to be 'whacked' soon.

Good to hear about Vera, such a long time together but I guess lots of laughs and tears in that time, we reminisce lots as I expect you did.
We too have a garage full of the same type of ‘stuff’, some of which belonged to OUR parents ,my husband is a great believer of (it might come in handy) and sometimes it does!

Hard to believe how cold you are, getting hotter than ever here.
Keep well
Cheers ???????

Hi Rufus how sad your wife passed away on Christmas Eve and just after your anniversary! Guess there's never a good time to lose your partner but even worse around Christmas. I'm a fan of Michael Portillo, watch all his fab railway trips in exotic locations. What a cherming man and what a job! Stay safe. Don't mind wearing the mask, hides all the lines! Stay safe. wine

Good Evening Everyone. It sounds like you and Vera had a lovely life Rufus.
It's been a lovely day where I am, such a shame I was at work.
