I've dipped into most of the forums on this site and thought I'd take a look at Classics. Why not learn a little bit about Greek and Roman literature, I thought to myself. Realisation hit - Classics doesn't have anything to do with Homer! Am I the only one on here who didn't understand this? I feel such a ninny. smile

Marydoll Thu 13-Aug-20 20:36:58

TheFrugalPiggy, may I join your gang?

I read your post and thought, Homer is to do with the classics.
I didn't realise that there was a Forum, which was titled Classics. You are not the only Ninny on here. ?

tanith Thu 13-Aug-20 20:37:33

I wouldn’t of had a clue till I just took a look ???

I must be a ninny too

MissAdventure Thu 13-Aug-20 20:40:21

There was a kind of "thread of shame" a while back, where we confessed to things we should have known, but didn't until we were quite old. smile

Oopsadaisy3 Thu 13-Aug-20 21:48:16

Well I haven’t heard of it , but I’m guessing Classic Cars?

Surely not Classics as in pearls and twinsets?

I’ll go and have a butchers.......back in a mo

Oopsadaisy3 Thu 13-Aug-20 21:49:27

Hmph, ok, well , what can I say? I might sneak back for a look another time.

Illte Thu 13-Aug-20 22:54:56

Oh?

Callistemon Thu 13-Aug-20 22:57:46

I didn't even know there was a Classics thread.

Going to take a look.

Callistemon Thu 13-Aug-20 22:59:04

Not classics as in books then?
confused

Callistemon Thu 13-Aug-20 23:01:14

Here's a classic question TheFrugalPiggy

Did Homer exist?

Grannybags Thu 13-Aug-20 23:03:59

I'd never heard of a Classics thread either so I had a look - not what I was expecting!

Why classics I wonder?

Marydoll Thu 13-Aug-20 23:05:42

He was, therefore he is or words to that effect... Or was that some French guy? ? ?
Or even better, someone wrote a load of poetry and needed a classical sounding name.

I had to learn his poetry off by heart, for my Latin exam. He was hard work!!

Chewbacca Thu 13-Aug-20 23:05:58

I think that the Cold Cup of Tea thread belongs in classics. nods sagely

Callistemon Thu 13-Aug-20 23:13:49

I think, therefore I am
Cogito, ergo sum

I think it was Descartes, well, Homer said it was him and I believe him.

MissAdventure Thu 13-Aug-20 23:15:38

"Sometimes I sits and thinks, and sometimes I just sits."

Marydoll Thu 13-Aug-20 23:18:05

It was indeed Descartes. I hate ( well perhaps not hate) that man! I had to write a philosophy essay on that very statement. I hadn't a clue where to start,☹️? It caused me no end of stress.

Marydoll Thu 13-Aug-20 23:20:15

Is that tea with or without sugar, Chewy? I do like a good discussion about the nuances of tea and how it tastes.?

Callistemon Thu 13-Aug-20 23:21:02

You should have asked Homer.
He has all the answers, although he's a bit slow. It takes him years to get anywhere.

Marydoll Thu 13-Aug-20 23:23:19

I was running out of time and was desperate! It counted towards my final exam.?

Chewbacca Thu 13-Aug-20 23:28:54

The only Homer I know is bright yellow with a beer belly.

Marydoll Thu 13-Aug-20 23:36:30

That's him! Didn't you know that he was a famous poet??

Chewbacca Fri 14-Aug-20 00:08:02

That "Classics" forum must be quite new. Why don't GNHQ send memos when that sort of thing happens?

Froglady Fri 14-Aug-20 08:31:02

I would have thought that Classics meant The Classics; so you are certainly not the only one who thought that!

TheFrugalPiggy Fri 14-Aug-20 11:06:00

Here's a classic question TheFrugalPiggy

Did Homer exist?

This is why I needed the Classic section to be just that! Might have been able to answer that question if I had found what I was expecting. ?
