Plastic baloons filled with helium.
Oriental lanterns made of lead, with the candle inside.
Fireworks sold on an indivdual basis.

Heard that Sainsburys will not be selling firworks this year,
a scheme they started back in 2019.
Just wondering if the other large chains will follow suit.

I came on to say fireworks!
Apparently it is possible for fireworks to be silent.
In parts of Italy only silent fireworks are allowed.
I have to buy extortionate tranquillisers from the vet for my utterly terrified dog.
I have even been known to give her a tiny bit of diazepam.
One new years eve was horrendous. I was up till four in the morning sobbing with the dog.
It sounded like a blooming war zone.
And the poor wild animals and birds.
How farmers cope lord knows.
I don't think that I feel so strongly about many other things, and I am very opinionated!

FannyCornforth Thu 24-Sep-20 05:52:27

And how on earth are they so widely available???
They are explosives for God's sake!

Liz46 Thu 24-Sep-20 07:22:09

We've been on holiday to India about 15 times and they love fireworks. One evening we had our dinner outdoors at our hotel and then the young waiters started to get fireworks out.

I had a bad feeling so said I wanted to go out. We were told next day that a firework had hit a balcony and came down onto the table where we had been sitting.

Words cannot express how much I HATE fireworks. My poor little dog is terrified of them and gets so agitated when she hears one it is pitiful.
I too cannot believe that they sell explosives to any one - please, please ban them and just have organised firework displays (not this year I imagine).
I have never heard of silent fireworks but they sound a great idea.

I would ban people from making phone calls on trains, usually to say, “I’m on the train....!”
And cyclists on pavements.

Oopsadaisy4 Thu 24-Sep-20 07:46:30

I would ban the manufacture and import of all products that are made from non recyclable materials.
Any products too large to be recycled must be taken back by the manufacturer and they must break them down to be recycled.

All internet sites that host pornography , surely there must be a way, our youngsters are bombarded by readily available hard core porn, which surely must have an adverse effect on them.

Lots of other things , none of which ( including the ones above) will ever happen.

Bridie22 Thu 24-Sep-20 07:50:12

I would ban certain posters who derail the estrangement threads with their own agendas, they judge, condem , bully vulnerable and distressed posters who come looking for support and help.,
Also ban fireworks, cars parking on pavements and spitting in the street.

FannyCornforth Thu 24-Sep-20 07:53:48

People cycling in extremely busy traffic with little children in a basket at the back.
My stomach lurches every time I see one.

grannyrebel7 Thu 24-Sep-20 07:58:08

Fireworks and Halloween for me.

Goodbyetoallthat Thu 24-Sep-20 08:02:17

Plastic packaging on everything you buy!

Jaxjacky Thu 24-Sep-20 08:04:48

Nothing at the moment, enough bans, for a good reason, in our daily lives.

TwiceAsNice Thu 24-Sep-20 08:05:04

Definitely fireworks although we do buy sparklers for the children for NY but they are silent .

Polystyrene on all packaging , it can’t be recycled and makes a terrible mess of it breaks, and don’t get me started on the individual pellets!

Riding bikes and scooters on the pavement

sodapop Thu 24-Sep-20 08:38:06

Not a ban but perhaps car manufacturers could be encouraged to use the technology that stops mobile phones working in cars and lorries whilst the engine is running.

Definitely noisy fireworks. FannyCornforth your dog will be picking up on your stress as well, try to be more relaxed when she is distressed, I know its not easy.

Maggiemaybe Thu 24-Sep-20 08:46:50

Any car bigger or more powerful than it needs to be for its intended purpose.

Unnecessary packaging, single use cups, barbecues, etc, etc. Plastic tat and throwaway fashion. Imports of stuff we can produce ourselves, particularly food.

Galaxy Thu 24-Sep-20 08:53:35

Porn, (I know this is impossible) parking on pavements and I would somehow reconfigure the whole dog poop in bags thing.

Daisymae Thu 24-Sep-20 08:56:31

Those massive trawlers that scrape away the sea bed and everything in its path. They are in UK waters how is this not banned?

TerriBull Thu 24-Sep-20 09:10:13

I wouldn't ban them, but I've witnessed some very careless riders on electric scooters. Situations evolve quickly these days so maybe some legislation on the hoof is required. Are they allowed on the pavement? that's where I've seen them. Also noticed a couple have come directly off the pavement on to the road without due caution. Like the "inconsiderate" bike riders, I'm only referring to the ones that don't obey the rules of the road, I've seen a couple whizz through red lights without a care in the world. I think it's only a matter of time before there will be a spate of accidents. I think bikes and scooters should have some sort of registration number and insurance. Considerable parts of the road are given over to cycle lanes these days, so maybe a lower level of road tax.

There's also a growing trend in my area for mothers of young children to have some chariot type of affair attached to their bike to ferry their little ones to and from nursery and school. These are really good in Center Parcs where they work well, but back in planet suburbia they can cause chaos and massive jams at rush hours. Quite often seen yuppy mum earnestly cycling away with a mile of vehicles stacked up behind her....and all those car fumes that the small children in these contraptions are exposed to hmm
I'm not saying I'd ban them but they are highly impractical in metropolitan areas.

Stephenmarra Thu 24-Sep-20 09:53:03

I don't like the idea of banning but I agree with Daisymae with the Factory trawlers in UK waters.
Also a ban on fracking in the UK. The risk of contamination of groundwater and links to various cancers and other health risks makes it a non starter.

optimist Thu 24-Sep-20 09:55:20

I live in Twickenham so I would ban rugby. The fans are truly awful.

MrsRochester Thu 24-Sep-20 09:56:22

Fireworks too.
Can a group of people be banned? Those who tie bags of dog poo to trees.

BlueSky Thu 24-Sep-20 09:58:49

Nothing at the moment, enough bans, for a good reason, in our daily lives.

Agree Jaxjacky

lovebeigecardigans1955 Thu 24-Sep-20 10:05:07

I agree with the idea that fireworks should be banned.

I'd like to ban cars which go at ridiculous speeds, apart perhaps from those which belong to the emergency services. My little car can go up to 80 mph - what's the point? It's illegal.

henetha Thu 24-Sep-20 10:09:14

Men's shirts wrapped in plastic and bits of cardboard etc.
Just hang them up like women's blouses are sold.
I would ban all excessive use of wrappings of anything which doesn't really need wrapping.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 24-Sep-20 10:09:40

TerriBull Electric Scooters are illegal on pavements, roads and cycle paths in the U.K., apart from a limited number permitted by Government in the current trials . They are only allowed to be used on private land with the landowners permission.

I would like to see littering banned and heavy fines applied to those who continue to litter
