Recently watched Saturday Night and Sunday Morning on Amazon Prime & it was amazing.
It’s quite different watching a film made 60 years ago about those times, from watching a film made now and set 60 years ago IYSWIM.

Until recently I would have said ‘In the Heat of the Night’ but it was on a few weeks ago and it is as powerful and relevant today as it’s always been.

I love the Sony Movies Classic and the Talking Pictures channels. Both Freeview.

Any more films not been on telly for a long time,
and don't get me started of why the Norman Wisdom
film
"There was crooked man" has not been on the Telly since the 1960's.

Any Fred and Ginger films please.

Ryan’s Daughter.
Maybe I’ve missed it but I’ve never seen it listed in the TV guide.

How green was my valley.

EllanVannin Sat 23-Jan-21 16:37:34

Ohmother that would be one of mine too, along with the original version of Rebecca.

The Spiral Staircase.
Bette Davis films.
Ethel Barrymore films.
Martita Hunt films.

I know they've all got whiskers on them but I love old films.

Death goes to school. A whodunnit set in a girls' school, with a young Gordon Jackson as the detective.

It's so wonderfully stiff lipped! Right at the beginning and ne of the pupils finds one of the teachers dead in the school grounds. She runs into the headmistress's office. The head and the senior mistress agree that she should stay with the head (after they've previously left her to go and check that there Is a body) *because they don't want her spreading an alarming tale around the school* - no concern for her trauma! Wonderful!

Inn of the Sixth Happiness - Ingrid Bergman

Charade - Audrey Hepburn

Boy on a Dolphin - Sophia Loren

The Night of the Hunter - Robert Mitchum. A really scary film in its day.

Father Goose - Cary Grant

Goodbye Mr Chips was on not long ago with Goodnight Mr Tom. I was a wreck !

GagaJo Sat 23-Jan-21 19:15:33

Oh Greengage Summer! One of my favourite books. Great film too.

Likewise, The Peacock Spring.

A few of these will be on Bflix.to. I am catching up with a lot of old TV on there.

I would love to see again " The Three Lives Of Thomasina"
About a cat.

I was enraptured by it as a child.

I think it was a Disney production.

Kim19 Sat 23-Jan-21 19:23:15

EV that was a more recent Mr Chips. Not a patch on the PC/PoT version in my opinion.

Kalu Sat 23-Jan-21 19:25:14

Death in Venice. Beautiful film although it is such a sad tale.

Out of Africa is still my all time favourite. True story of Karen Blixen, cinematography and the music.
