Good Fortune?

As most of us Grannies must be at least halfway through our lives, and some nearing the end, do we look back and recognise that that chance has played a part in how lucky or unlucky we have been?

Do we look back and imagine what might have been, for better or worse, had it not been for some chance event? Do you think of yourself as having been fortunate or unfortunate?

I moved from an area with atrocious health care to an area with outstanding cancer care, 9 months before being diagnosed with cancer myself. I definitely think I was lucky with that.

Also, I took a huge leap of faith, going to work in China, never having been there, with no idea what the school would be like, and everything was incredibly good.

Mostly, I think I've been lucky.

I now realise that I am and have been very lucky. I wish I'd known things would be OK when I was deep in sad and worrying times but that's life I suppose.
I have had some strikingly lucky incidents, just been there at the right time and the right place to set some great new things going.

I didn't begin lucky. My darling dad was killed in an accident and I had a pretty miserable youth but miraculously met DH on a blind date and we married 3 months later.
My life for 50years until I lost him to cancer was very happy. Chance?

I chose good parents, a good time in history and a safe place to be born, and born on a Sunday to boot! Then of course I was so wise when I chose my DH who has been nearly as wise as me. grin

No, really incredibly fortunate. Did some stupid things but saved from myself by chance and the abilities and kindness of others…

I had a grim upbringing, a narcissistic mother and a bully father and brother.
I have had a far more blessed adult life.
My husband and 3 children are wonderful.
I have worked hard at being a wife and parent.
However I think I was lucky meeting my husband.

My husband was a patient. Not lucky for him being in a major road accident losing his spleen and several inches of bowel but he got me. Married 43 years.

I am similar to Sago. Violent, abusive, neglectful childhood, severe bullying at school. Various horrors which I won't go into.
Lucky enough to meet this lovely man who I have been married to for 52 years. Lovely family. I am still quite troubled, but we get through.

Apart from a very unfortunate start in life and a bad marriage, I've been lucky in many ways. Wonderful sons, good health mainly, and lots of travel and adventures, it's been lovely.

I don`t look back,no point, if some thing bad did happen, why let it take over.
And if it was someone who done you wrong, you are allowing them to do it again by thinking about it/them.
I don`t mean to make light of anyones sad experiences i really don`t,but it doesn`t help you in the long run.

Being the youngest of a family of seven I had a happy childhood, that is until our Dad was killed in a road traffic accident, when I was just eleven.
However, needs must and life carried on after the initial shock and our Mum did her best, which must have been very difficult for her.
We were all educated and did pretty well for ourselves, working hard along the way.
I went on to meet a decent guy and we've been married for forty five years, three good sons and three lovely grandchildren.
So, all in all, life has and is good with lots of luck along tbe way.

I sometimes complain but realise I have been extremely fortunate. My childhood was far from happy but, after a couple of bad choices, met my soul mate. Sometimes things were tough and money was short but we always had each other and he could always make me laugh.

In the words of the Joe Walsh song, “Life’s been good to me” smile

No chance has not played a part in how lucky/unlucky I have been. Most of us have had both fortunate and unfortunate times in our lives, I don't find looking back and imagining how things might have been instead of accepting how life is now helpful.

I don’t know if I believe in luck or not. But I agree with the Tao Te Ching that good luck leans on bad and bad on good. The wheel of life turns and sometimes we’re on the top and other times we’re hanging off the bottom by our fingertips !
