We stayed a night at a lovely country hotel on Sunday. The room was spacious, spotless, modern and had everything you could desire. The breakfast the next day was fantastic too and all staff in the hotel were wonderful. The price was reasonable and we have absolutely no complaints.
However, we were glad to get back to our own beds as we didn't sleep well. Backs ached the next morning and we felt a little claustrophobic as the room had no opening windows, only air con. We are fresh air fanatics.
The reason I am saying this is that we used to travel all over the world before covid but this one night away made us glad to go home. We did enjoy it, but what has happened to us, the intrepid world travellers? Are we just getting older and more aware of the discomforts of strange beds? Both of us were surprised at how we felt. Maybe we need to go away more and get back into travel mode but flying anywhere long haul has lost its appeal and we are not willing to risk covid by cruising just yet.
By the way, we are both grateful we can still go on holidays and never take this for granted. One day we won't be capable, I know.
Anyone else feel their attitude to travel/sleeping away from home has altered recently?
