Gary Glitter let out of jail half way through sentence

Gary Glitter has only served 8 years of his 16 year jail sentence for molesting and raping young girls. He was first apprehended taking his computer into PC World where it was found to be loaded with porn. He was chucked out of Cambodia for sexual offences against children and has a daughter there that he refuses to recognise.

He has pots of money still from royalties. This disgusting man is now free to offend again and cause torment to those whose lives he ruined.

Oh! I thought he had died 😲

Surely he won't offend again and will keep himself to himself now?
He shouldn't be allowed access to the internet.

Should never come out hideous man who has raped children all round the world
Should have stayed in for life

Oh, yuck . He must be pretty old by now- or should I say ugly old. I doubt he would be capable of offending, hope not anyway.

He's not so old that he may not be a danger still.
He's 78.

The law was changed after he was sentenced so that automatic release after serving half the sentence is not the case now.

And yet the poor girls he molested / raped are serving a life sentence.
So much for justice.
He should be castrated imo.

I suppose he was eligible for parole and it was considered he was no longer a risk. Ghastly man, I took my son to one of his concerts long before his activities were known about, when he was popular with all the young kids.

Callistemon21 Sat 04-Feb-23 15:34:17

Thank goodness the law was changed.

Too late to keep him behind bars though.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 04-Feb-23 15:34:21

It is the law as it stands. Nothing to be done.

Callistemon21 Sat 04-Feb-23 15:35:12

It was the law when he was sentenced but it has changed since.

👍

He’s roughly the same age as me and he could still abuse children
He was singing in our area when I was a teenager, two young people who I didn’t know at the time but became friends with one in later life and she told me they went to one of his concerts, they met him afterwards, my friend left and went home but her friend didn’t come home until the next morning I believe he had a caravan
Ghastly ghastly man shouldn’t be breathing the fresh air he has never been remotely sorry many of the children overseas were orphans or little kids with poor families

Whitewavemark2 Sat 04-Feb-23 16:02:51

Read somewhere that he is intending to go abroad. Who on Earth would have him? And would he not be on some sort of licence?

sodapop Sat 04-Feb-23 16:03:42

Agree BlueBelle not sure he will change his habits now.

Joane123 Sat 04-Feb-23 16:15:22

Horrible man. Should never have been released.

JaneJudge Sat 04-Feb-23 16:20:36

we don't know what extent of his abuse is if he's access to young girls since BlueBelle was a teenager. It's a disgrace he has been let out half way through even if it is the law as it stands

Ailidh Sat 04-Feb-23 16:27:17

He's released on licence. I assume any infringement will trigger instant recall.

Revolting. Had to stop at "revolting", couldn't find a suitable noun.

BlueBelle Sat 04-Feb-23 16:34:02

Yes we do Janejudge google it ! he’s been abusing and raping all his life except when he was in prison presumable

JaneJudge Sat 04-Feb-23 16:38:28

sad I cannot bear to google it. I think what I really meant was, he hasn't been convicted for half of it <understatement>

There should be certain categories of crime which do not qualify for early release and this is one of them, where you are potentially in danger of harming other people. For instance, someone who stabbed their abusive partner would be less likely to harm others than this man who harms young people whenever he can.

His bail hostel is near 10 schools and an estate with children. The address was leaked and he was targeted by a vigilantes yelling and screaming they didn’t want him there.
