Does anyone remember Walter Hottle Bottle from the Jack and Jill comic? Walter was a magic hot water bottle that came to life in a little boy's dreams at night, and took him on adventures.

My mum used to read this story and many others to my brother and I in the mid-1960s. I remember I always loved stories about Walter Hottle Bottle ❤️.

Do you recall your favourite comic/character?

Definitely The Bunty.

Kate1949 Tue 20-Feb-24 15:17:37

Bunty and School Friend. My sister liked Girl.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 20-Feb-24 15:19:27

Bunty and School Friend, also the Beano.

Bit of a toss up between Bunty and Judy. Although also liked Diana.

Bunty- with the dressing up doll on the back! I also remember June and School friend with the Four Marys. Mary Cotter and Mary Rand but I don't remember the other two.
There was a comic called Mandy too and the first edition had free bubble bath! How luxurious did I feel wallowing in those bubbles. Lol- such memories!

Bunty, with Sandra of the Secret Ballet. At Christmas I loved the School Friend Annual.

Topper, and then the Beano.

I loved the four Marys. I can see them now. Was it Mary Cotter, Mary Simpson, Mary Field and Mary Radleigh or Raleigh?

Rosie51 Tue 20-Feb-24 15:48:20

School Friend and Bunty. The other two Marys were Mary Simpson and Mary Field or was it Fields? Wasn't it Mary Radleigh not Mary Rand or maybe that's a Mary from another comic?

Different comics throughout the growing up years.

Bunty and Judy? I seem to remember, the latter not as good as Bunty though. My brother had The Beano and sometimes The Dandy I read those as well.

Later on Jackie and then Petticoat

I hadn't refreshed the page I'm sure you're right Kate1949

Delia22 Tue 20-Feb-24 15:54:31

Bunty then I think Jackie!

Oldnproud Tue 20-Feb-24 15:56:24

Jack and Jill when I was 5-ish, though don't remember anything specific from it apart from learning what 'draw the curtains' meant.
Then Diana and Sandy when I was a bit older.
I still remember feeling very sad when my mum eventually suggested that she cancel my weekly order for them at the newsagents because she thought I was getting too old for them. I didn't argue, but really missed them 😔.

3nanny6 Tue 20-Feb-24 15:59:11

BlueBelle Tue 20-Feb-24 15:59:32

sodapop Tue 20-Feb-24 16:03:13

Girl's Crystal, I remember hoping it would pop through the letter box early so I could catch up with my serial before school.

HelterSkelter1 Tue 20-Feb-24 16:08:27

Bunty and School Friend. Beano and Dandy occasionally.
Then Petticoat and Honey. I loved them all.

humptydumpty Tue 20-Feb-24 16:10:57

Bunty and Judy smile

Grandma70s Tue 20-Feb-24 16:14:02

I wasn’t allowed to have comics, but I always secretly longed for School Friend.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 20-Feb-24 16:16:08

That’s so sad Grandma70s. Did your parents not approve of them? They were such innocent fun.
