Out of curiosity, what is your favourite comfort food?

25Avalon Tue 09-Jun-20 09:42:17

Grated cheese on top of buttery mashed potato, placed under a hot grill until it’s crispy and golden. Mmm I’m off to cook potatoes and grate cheese right now!,

Either toast with lots of butter and topped with either honey or a good jam/marmalade.

Bread and milk. It has to be white bread with a generous helping of sugar and then hot milk poured over it...
The ultimate comfort food for me.

Fish fingers, mashed potatoes and peas ,
Bacon and cherry tomatoes. Bacon grilled and chopped up , then mixed in with pasta with a dollop of mayo ( so it's a bit like a pasta salad) - first made this when there was not much in my fridge and had just got home from work and needed something quickly. I also sometimes add cooked frozen veg and it's best served slightly warm !

Heinz Tomato Soup with hot toast and lots of butter.
If too hot for soup, pitta bread stuffed with thinly sliced cucumber and taramasalata.

Raspberry bread and butter pudding made with brioche.

Chocolate sponge putting with chocolate sauce made with real chocolate.

Esspee Tue 09-Jun-20 10:17:27

Homemade soup with real bread and butter
Rice pudding
Real custard with any kind of cake (sticky toffee, apple tart etc.)
Cottage pie
Macaroni pie with a crispy topping (Caribbean style)

Just realised the common denominator - all calorie dense ?

Cheese on toast/cheese toastie very well done.

Froglady Tue 09-Jun-20 10:19:01

Toast and Lurpak and marmite (the marmite has to be spread very thickly otherwise there's no point in having it!)

mumofmadboys Tue 09-Jun-20 10:23:02

Box of maltesers!

AGAA4 Tue 09-Jun-20 10:26:12

Cadburys Fruit and Nut - I can eat a whole slab in one sitting ......

B9exchange another vote for raspberry brioche bread & butter pud!
Cumberlands sausages, mash and country ale chutney. Cut sausages into bite size pieces, then eat the meal with just a fork. Comforting and lazy.

I’m sorry, but your bread and milk favourite sounds like something I would only eat if I were desperate!

Haggis, clapshot and Onion gravy, tonights dinner by coincidence, I am still trying to eat my way through my freezers.

What I’m going to make for lunch today.
Grated Cheshire cheese sprinkled over milk on a Pyrex plate, a rasher of bacon at the side, topped with sliced onions & a sprinkling of mustard on the top.
Grilled for 10 minutes& served with white bread?.

Perfect unlumpy mashed potatoes - you've got to be able to taste the salt and butter, with grated cheese and a soft-boiled egg with the yolk all runny.

Poppyred Tue 09-Jun-20 12:58:44

Fish finger sandwich with white sliced bread, ketchup and vinegar, followed with Macaroni pudding.
