Did anyone watch this programme the other night? I like anything that is fuss free and loved the small sponge puddings steamed in the oven for 25 minutes and knowing I can freeze them pre-bake for another day is great. I have also never made shell cases from bread but will definitely try them. The other ideas for decorations were also interesting.

Nellie, I watched this on catch up, as I missed the actual programme.
The little steamed puds looked delicious, but I didn't get the recipe for Nancy Birtwistles (Sp?). cranberry sauce. Looked so nice.
Did anyone else manage to get the proportions of cranberries, orange juice and sugar please?

My mum used to make the most delicious tart cases from bread. I think they were a Delia recipe but can't be sure.

I’ve often made the bread tart cases for nibbles. I think they were a Delia’s Christmas recipe from the 1990s.

I have made the shell cases for the last 40 years at Christmas. It was actually a recipe which came from Stork margarine!

I never saw the Kirsty programme, so I don't know if she recommended rolling out the cases with a rolling pin. You get a crispier bake if you roll them thinly..

When I used to make bread cases in another lifetime, I also used to roll them out very thinly, they were delicious.
Can’t remember now, we’re they brushed with melted butter in the tins before baking?

Yes Anne, but the Stork recipe obviously recommended using Stork! grin

Oh how very non-u, I’m sure the sainted Delia or even Mary would only use butter.
As for James Martin....?
