Chicken and mushroom?

DH was cooking tonight's meal which was chicken and chips. I asked him to saute some leftover mushrooms to go with it. He refused on the grounds that it was an abomination to serve mushrooms with chicken and chips. We got baked beans instead.
What do you think?

Mushrooms with chicken. Big tick smile
Baked beans with chicken. A big no, no for me. hmm

Grandmabatty Mon 20-Nov-23 18:53:35

Definitely mushrooms for me

Pittcity Mon 20-Nov-23 19:05:28

Thank you for agreeing with me.

Thinking about it I realise that it was easier to warm beans than to clean, chop and fry mushrooms. I think DH's food rules are just an excuse for laziness.

He will happily eat Yorkshires with roast chicken!

We'll have the mushrooms with toad in the hole tomorrow.

baked beans - with chicken - Yuk. Mushrooms with chicken and chips, definitely.

Except I don't like chicken, at least not as in one large chunk, so I will opt for chips, mushrooms and baked beans.

No to baked beans with chicken but a big yes for mushrooms.

Marydoll Mon 20-Nov-23 19:14:28

Mushrooms!

Pittcity Mon 20-Nov-23 19:19:35

I'm feeling a bit smug now. Don't think I'd better show this thread to DH though 😁

Hmmm I’m not so sure about this. I don’t think I’d eat mushrooms with chips.

Baked beans with chicken? 😲
That's an abomination!

Chicken and mushroom pie is a classic, would be fine without the pastry too.
I think there's a recipe which uses condensed mushroom soup with chicken.

Baked beans - on toast or with sausage and mash only.

DH would've been happy to eat them with steak and chips.

I was thinking the same.

When DH and I were courting, we used to visit the Berni Inn for steak, mushrooms, fried tomatoes and chips, washed down with a bottle of Nuit Saint Georges red wine. We still hanker after it.

Another tick from me Pittcity for mushrooms! 😊

Urmstongran Mon 20-Nov-23 19:52:37

P.s. thinking on it - it might have looked ‘a bit beige’? Would have had to add some frozen peas, pinged in the microwave for a bit of colour on the plate.
Posh, me.
🤣

We would too 😅😅

Yes to mushrooms with chicken, no to beans. Although I suspect MrA would eat beans with chicken. I just don't like beans much other than beans on toast.

Ziplok Mon 20-Nov-23 19:58:53

Definitely agree that mushrooms are the thing to choose rather than baked beans 😁.

Theexwife Mon 20-Nov-23 20:07:13

Has he never had mushrooms with chicken? And has he had beans with chicken before?

Not a meat eater but I can’t imagine beans with chicken, to me they just dont go together.

Pittcity Mon 20-Nov-23 20:08:23

DS has chimed in with the fact that he always orders beans and gravy with his KFC.
As they don't have mushrooms on the menu I doubt this is much help.

Yes Urms, I'd happily add a bit of colour.

Sounds lovely! Did you end with a big slice of Black Forest gateau too?

Marydoll Mon 20-Nov-23 21:42:26

We did and a French coffee. I don't even like coffee! 😂

rubysong Mon 20-Nov-23 21:48:49

Mushrooms with everything in this house.

twiglet77 Mon 20-Nov-23 22:05:09

My late mother used to plate up everyone’s meals and she always put baked beans on the Sunday roast, usually covering the mashed potato (fabulous roasties as well, not instead)!

Charleygirl5 Mon 20-Nov-23 22:12:09

I am like rubysong I also have mushrooms with everything.

I do not like baked beans so they would never feature here.

I would possibly add green beans and sweetcorn to go toward my 5 a day.

crazyH Mon 20-Nov-23 22:12:46

Not so keen on baked beans, but chicken, chips and mushrooms fine

BigBertha1 Mon 20-Nov-23 22:38:03

No beans for me thankyou
