I've been hunting for the old recipe, not the ones with oats on top - can anyone help please?

You don't have to put oats in. Basic crumble, for me, 150 grms plain flour, 75 grams butter, same amount sugar, rub butter and flour together, dont overwork it, stir in sugar, spread over fruit, bake 160 fan for about 40 mins. Longer if you want a browner top, sprinkle of demerara sugar on top is lovely.
My favourite pud.
Hope this helps.

Try using breakfast granola on the top.

Yes, it's a basic pastry recipe without the liquid. Half fat to flour. Same amount of sugar as fat.

4 oz flour
2oz sugar (caster or light brown)
2oz butter.

Rub butter into flour and stir in the sugar.

I seldom add anything. I don't like the texture of oats.

1 quantity flour
0.5 quantity butter
0.4 quantity sugar

Melt the butter in a saucepan, let it cool a little, stir in the flour and sugar. Because rubbing in is equivalent to stuffing a mushroom.

I often do a veggie crumble, although you could add meat if you wanted to. People often don't think about making savoury ones. You can vary it to suit your taste - either a cheese sauce or a casserole-type one, with 'fridge bottom' ingredients, and maybe a few lentils. Obviously don't add sugar to the mix, and I usually add grated cheese.

Yes, about these proportions.

If you have a food processor make 3 or 4 times the quantity and freeze what you don't use. Even easier than going to buy a packet each time 😃
