Rhododendron cuttings are not bushing out.

A friend gave me two rhododendron cuttings already planted in pots. We left them for a couple of weeks, then re-planted them in the garden. Since then, they seem to have taken - well, they haven't died - but are still just one stem with leaves. I'm watering them regularly in this dry weather, but are we supposed to be doing something with them to get them to bush out? New to this garden lark.

Pinch them out. That means the top to terminal bud. They will branch then.

Rhododendrons must not go dry during the summer months. Water with soft/ rain water. Ericaceous compost or acidic soil.

Thank you very much for your help.

Genevieve489 … Everything Whitewavemark2 said, plus shrubs like rhododendron don't necessarily grow quickly like summer bedding plants, so don't expect too much growth early on.

As they are young do give them shade in this sunny weather.

Happy gardening! [smile}
