I have just read on Mumsnet that labia shrink after menopause. Is this true?

NellG Mon 22-Feb-21 20:44:39

Gagajo Everything except arses and bellies shrinks after menopause...

tbh - it depends on subcutaneous fat distribution if we're talking outer bits rather than inner bits. I guess in thinner women it could be true. Certainly the other bits dry out and lose elasticity - therefore, technically shrinking.

Jaxjacky Mon 22-Feb-21 20:53:52

Hold on, I’ll have a look...

BlueBelle Mon 22-Feb-21 20:56:14

Well I guess you ve passed the menopause gagajo so have a look and then you can enlighten us

SynchroSwimmer Mon 22-Feb-21 20:56:27

Absolutely yes.

I always want to write and tell people this when they are talking online about considering labiaplasty surgery - at a young age. (I never do!). I want to suggest they just wait.

No one warns us about this do they.

I did go to my GP and laughed with her, my surprise that I suddenly resembled a Barbie Doll! Just when did that happen?

GagaJo Mon 22-Feb-21 21:48:20

I don't think mine have. And I had early menopause after total hysterectomy. Of course, I DO have a shocking memory, thanks to the menopause, so I could have just forgotten what it used to be like.

Esspee Mon 22-Feb-21 23:45:18

Yes

TrendyNannie6 Tue 23-Feb-21 00:03:51

Sorry this made me giggle, I just nearly choked on my cuppa, especially synchro post resembling a barbie doll. Lucky you!

vampirequeen Tue 23-Feb-21 08:23:47

I don't think mine have but then I have too much oestrogen in my system for my age so my body doesn't necessarily work the same way as others.

Bridgeit Tue 23-Feb-21 08:32:44

Everything shrinks or starts to after menopause, even your brain, but on the upside you don’t care. Ohh & don’t forget the bliss of not having the monthly palaver.

Esspee Tue 23-Feb-21 08:40:27

I have been on oestrogen for 31 years so my levels are that of a young thing. In the last couple of years I have noticed a change in appearance. Deflation best describes it. So perhaps it is more of an age thing.

Sunnysideup Tue 23-Feb-21 12:17:05

Yes, it does. Mine definitely shrank and then went back to its usual self once I went on oestrogen.

Whiff Tue 23-Feb-21 13:02:41

Been widowed for 17 years and had total hysterectomy when I was 38. So no one has needed to look there for years as they took my cervix so no smears. I'm 62 now. Not a part of my body I bother looking at.

timetogo2016 Tue 23-Feb-21 13:06:49

OMG Jaxjacky that made made me LOL.
No change to mine that iv`e noticed.

Esspee Tue 23-Feb-21 13:44:55

Very interesting to compare the threads on Mumsnet and Gransnet. I have to say the Mumsnet one is a breath of fresh air.

kircubbin2000 Tue 23-Feb-21 14:51:00

I don't know why anyone would need to look apart from a gynae doc.

MissAdventure Tue 23-Feb-21 14:52:32

Well, someone might fancy having a quick glance, these days.

Davida1968 Tue 23-Feb-21 14:53:52

Does this matter? (I think I'm more concerned about my hair at the moment.)

MissAdventure Tue 23-Feb-21 14:55:41

It's just as well to keep a check on all your bits.
Things can go wrong with them.

gulligranny Tue 23-Feb-21 14:55:47

Labiaplasty surgery?? What's that?

(And of course I've had to go and have a quick look, my bits all seem about the same ...)

MissAdventure Tue 23-Feb-21 15:01:13

Labioplasty is having your labia trimmed. Ouch! shock

InnocentBystander Tue 23-Feb-21 17:34:30

As a man I can assure you ladies that a vulva, is a vulva and variety is welcome. Provided it is healthy and clean I would not be repulsed, nor any other negative reaction, by a vulva with labia minora of any size or symmetry. It is a feature of a woman, not a woman in its own right, and as the most powerful erogenous zone in the human is the brain it is, for me anyway, the whole woman that attracts, stimulates, and excites me, not any individual piece of her. But then I abhor augmented breasts and buttocks - I like women as they come.

GagaJo Tue 23-Feb-21 18:13:22

I guess I should be happy it's still pink, and not as in the Sarah Millican sketch, 'slate grey'!

Whiff Tue 23-Feb-21 18:36:10

GagaJo that made me remember Joan Rivers did a whole routine about her bits and what happens them after menopause it was a scream. ?

Sunnysideup Wed 24-Feb-21 16:15:54

That’s a lovely post, Innocentbystander and one that warms the cockles!x
