Cleaning wine etc off a Sandstone fireplace

Can anyone help with the problem.
The sandstone fireplace as been used for many years with a log burning stove. The stains are what looks like pink spots which could be red wine and black areas where I think the logs have fallen.
I have tried scrubbing and using bicarb, no success.
I read somewhere use an oven cleaner, but a bit concerned this may make it worse.

I'm looking for a tried and tested successful solution, don't want to make the situation worse.

Thank you

My Daughter used Muckoff spray and a stiff scrubbing brush to clean up a very discoloured sandstone mantelpiece over my late fathers Inglenook fireplace, it took a few attempts, but it finally came up clean and fresh looking.

The second idea was to call in a Sandstone cleaning company, who specialise in cleaning up the exterior of old sandstone buildings such as Churches and Banks. Not cheap, and a very dirty and dusty job as they sandblast them clean, but they do bring them up as good as new.

I cleaned wax and soot deposits from my DS’s sandstone fire hearth with white vinegar and a nonstick pan scrubber. Worked well and the vinegar doesn’t leave a lasting smell!

TSP should do it. Here’s a link georgiancottage.co.uk/2016/02/21/how-to-clean-a-neglected-stone-fireplace/

Thanks everyone
I will give the Muckoff a try, as for the TSP I did know about this product but I would be too frightened to use it with it being so toxic.

I tried everything but in the end painted mine with masonry paint.
The result was very good, much better than I had hoped.
