I have had Dyson for years, but what are the other makes like?

I like Miele but the cost of bags has become prohibitive as well as it is difficult to find the correct size as mine is quite old now but has served me so well.

I have a Shark lift away which plugs in. It's really good. When I bought it the run time wasn't so long as now so I also bought a very cheap cordless one.

I would buy a cordless Sgark now.

Sebo .Absolutely brilliant on all surfaces but heavy . Totally reliable and worth every penny imo .

I have a Miele and a shark lift away both are brilliant, sorry but I don’t like dysons have had these and don’t rate them, depends obviously what you are wanting to pick up. I have pets and shark and Miele both are very good

Two of my daughter in laws swear by Sharks, and they both have dogs. My wee Dyson cordless is fine for me, and I have a Hoover for ‘ serious’ vacuuming.

Would not purchase anything made by Dyson on principle!!
As with domestic machines you first need to make a list of what is important to you.
eg: lightness, easy to empty, cordless or not, is it just for carpets or also hard floor, do you have a stairway.
Over the years I tried many different types and makes, two years ago, I was given for Xmas the combined upright and hand held GTech, both cordless. At long last I found the vacuum cleaners I needed. Used firstly in my house, with hard floors downstairs and carpets on stairs and upstairs, also the small hand held one, did my car so easily. Then I moved to a flat, all carpet at the moment, absolutely brilliant and so easy to empty and light to move.

I have a cordless Shark Pet Liftaway. It is brilliant.

I still have a Dyson, which is not nearly as good as the original one, and much flimsier. Like you, Franbern, I will not replace it with another Dyson when it gives up (perhaps if I used it more often it would have given up by now...) as I couldn't bring myself to support someone who preached Brexit and then moved production to Singapore. angry

Depends what you want it for, mainly hard floors, carpets, both?

Over the years I have had Hoover, Philips and Dyson cleaners. But for me the absolute best has been our recently purchased Shark Liftaway. Although it's a bit heavier than the others, it is a super cleaner and manoeuvres well (is that the right spelling?)It is also very versatile and cleans all floor surfaces and lifts away for stairs, under low furniture etc. I would definitely recommend it.
