Ime not surprised really; I know of at least 2 grandparents with grandchildren living with them....And one who, years ago,20 to be exact, took on the care of her grandson as his mother died shortly after giving birth to him.He is now a fine young man.But very sad for him initially. My daughter, when she was 15, went to live with Grandma for a few months, when she was studying for her O levels. She said she couldnt get much peace at home, what with 2 noisy younger brothers around! All Hail, Grandparents everywhere!

this seems a large number? I wonder how many are teenagers who are having the usual rows with parents so go to stop with grandparents. My ex-DP went to stay with his grandma because she gave him the love and attention his parents did not as they were too busy socialising!

Seems a large amount but I know a couple of sets of grandparents who have their grandchildren living with them. Don't know if I'd be able to manage having mine full time though as I'm shattered when I've looked after them for a few hours. Hats off to those that do.

Just read that an estimated 200,000 grandparents in the UK have their grandchildren living with them because of various reasons. I'm amazed by this figure - are other gransnetters as surprised or is it just me?
