It's getting a bit late for the Food and Farming awards this year (see last message), but I think we'll try and encourage more of a concerted campaign next year. Brown and Green's prepare help for their customers to write in with suggested words and things to sign which seems to me a good idea. It will be interesting to see how many entries we have ..I'll try to find out. London Road Bakehouse got into the Financial Times last week with their baking courses .. so things can happen!
Aren't we going to propose anyone for the food and farming awards? We have a great choice Hall Farm Alsager, the London Road Bake House, Brown and Green at Trentham, The Staffordshire Cheeses or the brewery at Stone? They all deserve recognition so if anyone wants to push one of these or any other I'm up for it and will give it a go ..let me know!!!
The Staffordshire Cheese Company markets cheese from the Staffordshire Moorlands using Staffordshire milk. There is Dovedale Blue, and the Cheddleton cheeses including mustard, chives and chilli cheeses as well as the basic delicious cheese. You can find out who stocks them by looking at the website www.staffordshirecheese.com. At the moment there is just a phone number but the outlets should be up there soon! You can also email them on [email protected] . Let us know if you've tried them, our family do like the Dovedale Blue!
Hall Farm Shop and Cafe in Alsager is an excellent place to buy meat and vegetables (All the meat is sourced locally). They also do a lovely range of cakes, biscuits and pastries ... but I try to avoid looking at them! www.hallfarmshopalsager.co.uk
It might be interesting to swap information about places where we have shopped (or eaten?) to get really good local food. The London Road Bake Shop (in Stoke) does great pumpkin bread (low GI) and Spelt Bread and has won prizes. Brown and Green in Trentham Gardens pride themselves on local and ethically sourced food, and sell frozen croissants and 'pain chocolat' you can dig out for a special breakfast! On 27th and 28th April they are doing tastings for gluten free, dairy free and reduced sugar products, and at the end of May (25th/26th) they are having a Vegetarian/Vegan weekend. We are not being paid by these people, this is not an advert but we ought to be able to share good experiences like these!
