A suggestion - put the place of a local meetup into the title of the thread. These Local Page posts are also shown in the main forum, under a general heading "Local". If a thread on the country-wide (world-wide?) site just says "Who's for a meet-up?" no-one reading it knows whether it is in Land's End ot John O'Groats, so they don't even read it. If it mentions somewhere near them, they have a look - and reply - and you get your coffee or lunch together.
