Alzheimer’s Society is calling on gransnetters to sign up to their biggest fundraising event of the year, Memory Walk.

The walks raise vital money for people living with dementia and their carers and are also a chance to walk, share and celebrate those who have been touched by the condition.

New figures released by Alzheimer’s Society on 10 September show there will be 850,000 people living with dementia by 2015, making it one of the biggest health challenges facing older generations today. Memory Walk aims to raise £1.8 million, which will go towards funding services for people living with the condition today as well as research to find a cure for tomorrow.

The events take place across the UK throughout September and October and there are walks of varying lengths to choose from, ranging from 2km strolls to 10km challenges. From a four-year-old to their 80-year-old gran and her dog, Memory Walk sees whole families coming together to fight dementia
