Colchester Borough Council is making use of money allocated as part of the New Homes Bonus to invest in the Town's historic Charter Market.

The refreshed and newly relocated market will open in spring 2015 on the High street with new stalls, electricity, anchor points and a calendar of promotional activity to attract a range of new traders and visitors.

The themed markets would support existing traders and encourage new entrepreneurs to trial the market to sell their products, as well as creating future job opportunities.

The High Street will be closed for the market twice a week and on some Sundays.

What are your thoughts?

Apparently the Street won't be closed to traffic. How would that work? It's crowded enough already!

Now the row over the increase in trader's rents rattles on.
A special council meeting will be held on 1st April after a huge petition was delivered to them.

I was surprised when the market was once again moved, this time back to the High Street. The market was taken out of the High Street as, to quote the council 'it causes traffic congestion'. Surely the amount of traffic has increased over the time since the market was removed.
