What's it like living in Lyndhurst?

Hello, Hampshire GN-ers.

Forgive me for butting into your site. We are thinking of moving to Lyndhurst (our house is on the market but not yet sold) and, although we know the area and lived in Bransgore for a short while, I'm hoping you locals will be able to tell me if Lyndhurst is a good place to live.

We love the New Forest and it is fairly convenient for most of our friends and family but we do have concerns about the traffic - I believe Lyndhurst is particularly bad in the summer. Can you tell me if it is liveable with or do all you Lyndhursters go elsewhere for the holiday period? I would also like to know if it is a friendly and sociable place with things to do for we older but active folk.
