We are making an arts documentary for C4 all about womanhood - what being a woman means and how the vagina has shaped our view of the world. We are working with photographer Laura Dodsworth to create a unique artwork made up of the experiences of a hundred women from all over the country. Never before has any generation been as bombarded by manipulated, controlled and airbrushed images. We’ve been tyrannised by the ideal of a perfect, pink, neat vagina. We want to flip the script and explore how that body part really shapes our lives. Pleasure, sex, pain, trauma, birth, motherhood, mensturation, menopause, gender and sexuality. It’s time to reclaim our womanhood on our own terms and in our own words. Taking part involves getting some intimate photographs taken in a sensitive and respectful environment, as well as doing a short interview. The photos are all anonymous and your photo will not be matched with your identity if you don’t want it to be. Each woman’s photo and story will be part of the large chorus of women, providing their testimony to explore how their experiences and bodies have affected their womanhood.
We are particularly interested in hearing from older women in their 70s and 80s - it would be wonderful to include their wisdom in the project. Please email [email protected] or call Elle on 0203 6965054 if you
