We do not need this written in capitals, thank you.

M0nica Wed 08-May-19 08:57:30

No, not when you shout at me like you have.

Anniebach Wed 08-May-19 08:58:58

skwawrkbox , haven’t had heard of it for ages .

maryeliza54 Wed 08-May-19 09:10:30

Oh ffs grow up - it’s only the title of the thread. Pathetic.

MawBroonsback Wed 08-May-19 09:10:37

What was all the discussion we had about “shouty capitals”?
Counter-productive.

Mycatisahacker Wed 08-May-19 09:12:42

Yes great idea tax tax tax and tax until you run out of spending other people’s money.

And someone should tell John not to wear his jumper around his shoulders he looks a knob.

maryeliza54 Wed 08-May-19 09:15:26

Well maybe just maybe Grany didn’t read it. Honestly how incredibly childish. I just don’t get why a thread title in capitals brings on such an attack of the vapours and pearl clutching. Grany you are a very very very naughty girl. You could contact HQ and ask them to lower case your title as it is giving headaches to posters ( no not the last bit). I doubt you’ve done this deliberately

Lily65 Wed 08-May-19 09:19:44

Grany, I fear you may some sort of Socialist leftie type. Be gone with your crazed capitals and blue links.

Mycatisahacker Wed 08-May-19 09:20:05

Na smacks of the shouty far left and the shouty far right!

Most of us are fed up with the both of them.
wink

Bathsheba Wed 08-May-19 09:21:59

Sorry, a video running for an hour and a half? No thanks, <yawn>.

Like Winston Churchill, I want brevity, information in bullet points please smile.

Mycatisahacker Wed 08-May-19 09:26:30

An hour and a half of any politician and I would reach for a rope! And John McDonald ye God’s bore off you old commi.

M0nica Wed 08-May-19 09:39:42

OPs shouldn't need to be told they shouldn't shout in titles.

It is not just the capitals, the title is a worded as a command. I have reacted to this heading the way I would if someone bawled out loud at me commanding me to watch something - and something political at that.

Silly cliched comments about pearls and vapours are much as one would expect from those that think shouting at people is a reasonable way of communicating.

Lily65 and mycatisahacker summarise my thoughts completely

GrannyGravy13 Wed 08-May-19 09:39:56

Grany can I respectfully request that you "précis" the pertinent points of your OP...........some of us have lives that are somewhat busy!!!

Thank you

Mycatisahacker Wed 08-May-19 09:42:15

I haven’t worn my pearls since my wedding in 1988!

wink

Ah I see working on the old Roman response of "Shoot the messenger". Could we discuss the Basic Income. Is there anybody who really thinks this is a bad idea and if so why? It seems to me to be something which would move us away from the very judgemental benefits programme. Interesting the John Nc Donnell mentions Ken Loach's film "I Daniel Blake"

maryeliza54 Wed 08-May-19 10:19:07

Worded as a command - oh purleeze. Pathetic

Grany Wed 08-May-19 10:19:29

Yes I agree that the video went on too long didn't know that. The first two speakers worth listening to about a Basic Income with a report how to change the inequalities that we have now. And the lady speaker at the end from age concern Questions at the end. It's good something like this is being discussed that offer solutions to our economy. Parts of Britain want to trial Basic Income

I just copied the title pasted should have checked didn't mean to shout

trisher Wed 08-May-19 10:29:14

Oh take no notice Grany I've just looked and there are 4 Games threads in capitals and I bet no-one has criticised them! When you prick peoples' consciences on GN and they know something is morally right they often find fault with something else.

GracesGranMK3 Wed 08-May-19 10:30:11

GRANY Thank you for flagging this up. Well worth the capitals in this instance to shout the news that things could change.

As is said at the beginning, we have a crisis of economic security. It will certainly not be solved by the Ultra-wealthy of the Tory party who only want to increase their own hold on the economics of the country and thus increase their own wealth.

We can all see that, as is said in the introduction to Dr Standing's outline of his report, government policy has increasingly leaned away from providing financial support whilst leaning towards increasingly managing people's lives through sanctions and so on.

It is, of course, typical of the Tories, who always want to be "nanny". But what a harsh and wicked "nanny" they have turned out to be. The impacts their policies have had on poverty, destitution and economic insecurity are rightly highlighted. In work poverty and economic insecurity affecting almost half the households in this country is an indictment of the Tory policies over the last 10 years. Their attempt to rescued the economy, from the same world-wide crises all other countries suffered from, by rewarding those who caused it and turning this country back to Victorian times for those who they made pay for their own mistakes.

Work alone is no guarantee of security and flogging a dying horse because it can't work harder never improves either the personal economy or the countries.

It is good to see the Labour Party listening and taking on board what is being said. The report is not a Labour Party report and is well worth listening to by everyone, although, of course, it is noticeable that those who know little or nothing about Basic Income are the first to decry something they declare they will not even watch. Now that does make me worry about the future of this country. I'm not sure if this is due to tribal epistemology or the Dunning Kruger effect but they will never know because they 'don't do experts' or even increasing their knowledge, do they?

Grany Wed 08-May-19 10:36:18

trisher Thank you I agree with you.

Grany Wed 08-May-19 10:40:53

GracesGranMK3 Thank you. You talk a lot of sense I agree.

Lily65 Wed 08-May-19 12:08:56

Grany, sorry my tongue was very firmly in my cheek, but of course nobody can see that.

Alexa Wed 08-May-19 12:18:01

I'm pleasantly surprised that basic income is affordable from the public purse. I wonder, have the Tories not done their sums and discovered this to be the case?

lemongrove Wed 08-May-19 12:19:28

Grany there used to be a prolific poster of links on here who also sometimes used shouty capitals.....it’s never appreciated, but perhaps you didn’t know that.
High time that everyone stopped doing it, and yes, the games threads too.
