........ of a lack of seasonal EU workers across UK meat plants.

The start of things to come?

Callistemon Wed 18-Dec-19 22:30:23

Why not indeed!

There were loads of pigs in blankets in the supermarket today.
I only went in for a bottle of Australian wine but saw them en route.

Before I became a veggie, I made my own pigs in blankets - in fact, I don't think ready-made ones have been available until quite recently.

Witzend Wed 18-Dec-19 23:04:29

There were stacks of them in M&S yesterday, both standard and 'posh' (their word, not mine).
Having said that, I made 48 the other night, now in the freezer for Christmas Day. We will only be 7 adults and 2 little ones, but this family does tend to ? them.
Plenty left over for Boxing Day, too. None will be wasted!

Chewbacca Wed 18-Dec-19 23:24:09

Loads of them in Aldi tonight. Do they employ different people to Wetherspoons to wrap their pigs up? hmm

Callistemon Wed 18-Dec-19 23:26:53

Service resumed as normal at Wetherspoons, apparently.

Perhaps the workers were making a political point

MawB Wed 18-Dec-19 23:45:36

Was it the pigs ? ? ? or the blankets ???that we’re the problem?
Duvets instead? ?

GracesGranMK3 Wed 18-Dec-19 23:50:06

The people MawB. The pigs were wrapped by hand.

blondenana Thu 19-Dec-19 00:08:21

Lots in Iceland today

SirChenjin Thu 19-Dec-19 08:04:51

Funny how other places managed to source pigs in blankets but the moon howler at the top of Spoons had problems.

Firecracker123 Thu 19-Dec-19 08:31:45

Yes Jura I buy British ?? products and produce as much as possible and boycott EU.

Wetherspoons supports UK independent breweries. ??

Cauldron veggie sausages are very nice. If people had to kill their own pigs, the demand for pigs in blankets would soon nosedive. Pigs are even more intelligent and amusing than our pet dogs. The way we treat and use them is horrendous:

My son ordered pigs in blankets at Wetherspoons recently and was served with just sausages. When he questioned this, they brought out some cooked rashers of bacon to add to the meal.

So do lots of other pubs - there’s nothing new there. Spoons didn’t stop selling all EU beers though as you claimed on another thread as two thirds of its beers sold still comes from the EU - it’s not that stupid.

Callistemon Thu 19-Dec-19 09:48:28

MawB I have just completed a couple of granny blankets if anyone needs to keep their piggies warm

MawB Thu 19-Dec-19 09:59:37

This little piggy went to market
This little piggy stayed at home
This little piggy had cold feet
But rotten old Weatherspoons made him shiver brr! brr! brrr! all the way home ❄️?❄️

SirChenjin Thu 19-Dec-19 10:00:43

grin MawB

Hetty58 I absolutely agree with you regarding pigs and intelligence.
There is an old country saying
“Dogs look up to you
Horses look down on you
But pigs is equal”
Flattering to some humans I suspect tchsmile

Firecracker123 Thu 19-Dec-19 10:04:02

I stand corrected re the beer but he had removed all EU wines and fizz.

SirChenjin Thu 19-Dec-19 10:25:03

It stopped selling champagne because it was hardly selling any Moet (the only one it stocked) but has ‘plans’ to replace Prosecco with new world fizz. Liqueurs and other spirits are imported from the EU. He’s not that daft - the customers would vote with their feet if they couldn’t get the drinks they like and he knows it. He’ll wave the Union Jack- but only to a point.

EMMF1948 Thu 19-Dec-19 10:29:58

British people need to do the work!

Why, when it's made so easy not to? I don't know who'll be out in the fields at all hours picking cabbages etc..

EMMF1948 Thu 19-Dec-19 10:33:15

Surely pigs in blankets are just about the first contribution that young children can make to the Christmas meal, my grandchildren were doing them at 3 or 4, they loved it.

SirChenjin Thu 19-Dec-19 10:35:29

If anyone thinks that Brexit will stop immigrants coming in to do these kinds of manual jobs at £cheap/hr they are deluded. Unless of course he’s going to make it a condition of receiving your tax credits or other benefits hmm

CraftyGranny Thu 19-Dec-19 10:41:21

Remember when out of work people were sent for jobs by the Job Center and if they refused to do the jobs, their dole was stopped! hmm
