Misogyny

Dominic Raab is unbelievable. He doesn’t seem to understand what misogyny means! As a person educated at Oxbridge I would expect him to have some understanding of the English language. It makes me wonder why these elite schools and universities actually teach.

Maybe because women have been subsumed into men for so long, so misandry would have been covered by misanthropy?

Don't get used to it, though - when the trans lobby notices they will be complaining that the words are exclusive and we won't be able to talk about hatred of women as a sex.

Misogyny has existed for thousands of years but the word is a fairly modern construct and became more popular towards the end of the last century.
To be countered by men claiming misandry, a word of more modern construction.

My favourite new word is canuted.
From Cnut, presumably Old English or Norse?

It's from an Old Norse word meaning "knot".

Is there an argument here for more widespread reintroduction of Latin and Greek to the national curriculum? Nobody with a basic classical education would have made that gaffe about misogyny

I don't think the word comes up in the basics of Latin or Greek.

Watson and Crick
But first there was Franklin (Cambridge)

Why can't a woman be more like a man?
Why is thinking something women never do?
And why is logic never even tried?
Straightening up their hair is all they ever do.
Why don't they straighten up the mess that's inside?

Have you seen the film "Life Story" about the rivalry between King's College and Cambridge?

No, I haven't, must look out for it

growstuff Thu 07-Oct-21 22:00:52

Maybe Dominic Raab should watch it, if he wants to understand misogyny.

If you mean the "Manchester Baby", Alan Turing developed a programmable computer before then. The three engineers who developed the "Manchester Baby" were all Oxford or Cambridge alumni.

I was going to mention Babbage and Lovelace. But I won't ?

Atomic theory is Rutherford's baby, he did his postgraduate work and education at Cambridge after moving here from New Zealand.

Don't mind me, carry on....

^It appears to be a cardinal GN sin - to be right of centre, attend a private school (gone to Oxbridge probably be extended to Russell Group next) earn above average salary and crime of all crimes voted to leave the EU.^

Got it in one. GG13

Let's forget about all those people who voted Leave to stick one on the Metropolitan Elite*, shall we?

*Metropolitan Elite = high earning university educated experts and business people...

The worst crime on gn appears to be generalisation at the expense of knowledge! Why assume all the high flyers hail from Oxbridge!? Hilarious really, shows how old brain washing dies hard.get with the program! Were in 2021 not 1921! Oxbridge types are presented as a charactacture of upper claaaaaas posh speaking fops who invented everything from the wheel to first programmable computer/graphene/ rolls Royce/ atomic theory, shall I continue? Oops soz all these are Manchester's babies......
