I was a bit shocked to read today that in the latest budget a £1billion loan has been granted to foreign powers to buy arms and other security measures from British firms. Surely if you are going to give a £1billion loan to stimulate a sector of the economy it could be something which does not have such devastating effects on the lives of the innocent.

Sadly not only are we are a major arms dealer but we often link aid to arms sales.

Many of the children in Yemen that we see on the TV adverts are victims of our arms.

This is all driven by the powerfully wealthy shareholders of these companies.
If they don't get ever-increasing annual profits they threaten to pull their investments.

Of the very many companies who rely on selling components to the arms companies, are the smaller firms who have workers in their local area. It they don't sell their widgets, their workers are laid off.

It's a horrible domino effect which keeps this immoral trade going.
