Who am I

I was sent this today by a good friend.

Doe this resonate?

Thoughts please.

Who Am I?

I used to think I was just a regular person, but I was born white,
which now, whether I like it or not, makes me a racist.

I am a fiscal and moral conservative, which by today's standards,
makes me a fascist.

I am heterosexual, which now makes me a homophobe.

I am mostly non-union, which makes me a traitor to the working class
and an ally of big business.

I was christened by my parents, which now labels me as an infidel.

I am retired, which makes me useless.

I think and I reason, therefore I doubt much that the main stream
media tells me, which must make me a reactionary.

I am proud of my heritage, which makes me a xenophobe.

I value my safety and that of my family and I appreciate the police
and the legal system, which makes me a right-wing extremist.

I believe in hard work, fair play, and fair compensation according to
each individual's merits, which today makes me an anti-socialist.

I (and most of the folks I know), acquired a fair education without
student loan debts and little or no debt, which makes me some kind of
an odd underachiever.

I believe in the defence and protection of my country and I honour
those who served in the Armed Forces, which now makes me a right
wing-militant.

Please help me come to terms with the new me... because I'm just not
sure who the hell I am anymore!

Funny ...it’s all just taken place over the last 10 to 15 years!

As if all this wasn’t enough to deal with ... now I’m not even sure
which lavatory to go into!

This person sounds like someone who finds change difficult to handle. And is rather self pitying.

Tangerine Thu 09-Jul-20 11:03:57

I suspect it is meant to be lighthearted.

B9exchange Thu 09-Jul-20 11:07:12

MissFoodLove you are very brave, good luck on here and in the wider world! grin

Galaxy Thu 09-Jul-20 11:15:45

But it's not very witty is it.

MaizieD Thu 09-Jul-20 11:24:25

It's utter nonsense.

I'm sure it will get its intended audience nodding along ...

Davidhs Thu 09-Jul-20 11:31:07

Yep, I pretty much go along with that, and so does a very large section of the population. There is an awful lot of change that is not for the better.

I will start a list if anyone wants to hear reality.

varian Thu 09-Jul-20 11:31:33

I was disappointed not to see the phrase "political correctness" pop up.

MawB Thu 09-Jul-20 11:33:31

Oh dear.
Meant to be lighthearted as others have surmised, but really not very funny - and fundamentally flawed.

EllanVannin Thu 09-Jul-20 11:47:55

Too much thinking going on. A diversion of thoughts is necessary if you just have a one-track mind. Other more important things are needed to think about---like the futures of our GC and GGC and the sort of world it's going to be for them, along with their employment in gaining the comforts we've had in our lives.

I know who I am and that'll never change no matter what. I've had too many things to think about other than to wonder what goes on elsewhere as my concentration has and always will be focussed on the family---as should everyone else in this changing world, without making a big issue of it.

No way will I adopt the same pessimistic attitude to life.

EllanVannin Thu 09-Jul-20 11:51:19

Life is what you make it ! No manual. A very true saying.
I've followed the teachings of my parents. They were so right.

Dinahmo Thu 09-Jul-20 11:51:49

I find it rather extreme. To say that because you're white you are a racist or if you're heterosexual you're a homophobe is absolute nonsense.

Teetime Thu 09-Jul-20 11:54:54

Well its no good asking me I've been in a post modern identity crisis for years.

Rosalyn69 Thu 09-Jul-20 11:58:30

Actually I thought it funny and pretty accurate. We aren’t allowed to be WASPS any more.

Lucca Thu 09-Jul-20 12:00:31

Er... that’s the supposed “joke”
I found it a bit trite sorry.
I think it’s nice to be sure of your own views but equally it’s good to be open to new ideas and different ways of thinking,

suziewoozie Thu 09-Jul-20 12:01:21

It’s nonsense and actually very very goady. I won’t waste my efforts any further on this thread nor rise to the bait.

Dinahmo Thu 09-Jul-20 12:09:32

Well, it's a pretty poor joke.

Lucca Thu 09-Jul-20 13:05:53

Dinahmo

Well, it's a pretty poor joke.

Agreed !

eazybee Thu 09-Jul-20 13:20:17

Teetime. grin

Iam64 Thu 09-Jul-20 13:56:32

We aren't allowed to be WASPS any more

Who is stopping us? Why do so many want to paint themselves as victims of what they often describe as PC gone mad?

ladymuck Thu 09-Jul-20 14:12:41

Oh well, Missfoodlove...at least they took the trouble to read it!!
I understand what you're trying to say and I was going to add my own thoughts, but seeing the snide remarks, I'll save it for another thread.

JenniferEccles Thu 09-Jul-20 15:03:36

How many will be prepared to say “ That sounds like me” ? !

I could have put money on the comments following the posting of this thread!!

sf101 Thu 09-Jul-20 15:24:23

Surely that's the point you can't say anything anymore as you are bound to offend someone!!

Davidhs Thu 09-Jul-20 15:28:59

That sounds like me.

Many of the rest are just Virtue Signaling

But there is another thread about that!

LOL

Well, at the age of seventy-seven I believe I have spent my life watching much that is good come about in Britain.

I was born into a country which was a huge Imperial power but then witnessed it PEACEFULLY transform itself into the 5th largest economic power in the world.

I was born into a country which had awful health standards for working people and seen that situation transformed by the formation of the NHS.

I was born into a country at war but through good governments of both colours, I like all of my generation have never been told to put on a uniform and go fight in any war.

I was born into a country that had often known huge unemployment but due to the good governments of both colours, I like so many of my generation have never known a day of unemployment.

The above is the important circumstances that has defined our country over the last seventy-five years. All the rest is just subsidiary to the above and I give great thanks for the life that I and all of my generation have been allowed to live.
