Can this be a spoof?

An adult party start-up is close to securing cash via the UK's pandemic survival scheme

Killing Kittens is close to securing £340,000 on the Seedrs crowdfunding platform.

Half of that is set to come from the U.K. government's Future Fund scheme, which is designed to support technology start-ups through the pandemic.

Killing Kittens, which is known for hosting sex parties for the world’s elite in cities around the world, has also built a social media platform.

The U.K. government is set to invest £170,000 into a company that runs adult parties for the rich and famous around the world.

Didn’t you check the veracity of this before posting it?

MaizieD Fri 10-Jul-20 21:46:52

I gave a link. You can check it if you want, lemon.

I thought it was amusing grin

lemongrove Fri 10-Jul-20 21:51:53

I did look at it actually, but that doesn’t prove it’s true.....and if they have applied for the money for their start up, it doesn’t mean they will automatically get it.

GagaJo Fri 10-Jul-20 21:57:58

Is this the organisation the SPAD involved with the government was involved with?

Elegran Fri 10-Jul-20 22:22:35

Could be a spoof, Maisie Could be the firm flying a kite and applying on the offchance that they would get it, and posting that today as publicity. Could even be true. I would imagine it is a firm that is likely to make enough profit to pay back the loan sooner than a more deserving business, so the financial risk to lending to them could be attractive to the bank bean-counters.

What a dreadful name - why would anyone want to go to one of their parties with a name like that? Lavender water and pink tulle are no longer the rage, but why are there so many horrible names for things these days - like the Slug and Lettuce bar, or some of the wierder pop groups?

MaizieD Fri 10-Jul-20 22:52:12

It's on an NBC website. Big US media corporation, lemon.

As I said, I think it's amusing...

I think it's 'killing' in the sense of 'utterly knockout', Elegran.

If No 10 can employ a former sex party organiser and the principle incumbent have 'pole dancing lessons' (or something) with a 'very close friend' and bung her a bit of state funding, I don't see that funding a 'tech sex' start up is beyond them... wink

growstuff Sat 11-Jul-20 01:05:27

The name actually comes from the saying "Every time you masturbate, God kills a kitten".

And the claim does indeed seem to be true.

Meanwhile, the plot thickens ...

"Killing Kittens" is owned by Emma Sayle, who has in the past been friendly with the Duchess of Cambridge. There are numerous photos of the two of them together, some of them relatively recently.

Before setting up "Killing Kittens", Sayle was Director of Operations for "Club Fever", which was founded by Dougie Smith, the husband of Munira Mirza, one of Boris Johnson's closest advisors. Smith himself now has a role in Downing Street.

There really is a film script in there somewhere!

growstuff Sat 11-Jul-20 01:08:26

I think the Conservative Party is trying to shake off its image as a political party for elderly, stuffy "shire" voters. It wants to appear "edgy". (Well, that's my theory anyway.)

growstuff Sat 11-Jul-20 01:11:11

PS. Killing Kittens isn't a start up. It was founded in 2005, but wants to develop its online operation, presumably as a result of "social distancing".

growstuff Sat 11-Jul-20 01:14:46

Anyway, they seem to know the market. It would appear (from various sources) that between 13-20% of internet searches are for online porn.

growstuff Sat 11-Jul-20 01:37:00

"Killing Kittens" (now rebranded KK) likes to give a public image as a "female empowerment" company.

wearekk.com/about/

Female tech start ups are seen as trailblazers and in the minority in the world of tech start ups. I'm sure Jennifer Arcuri said something similar.

My bet is that they'll get their funding because nobody will want to be seen as "uncool" and, anyway, the chances are quite high that many of the people involved in approving the money have accessed online porn themselves.

growstuff Sat 11-Jul-20 02:29:41

... or it might be the latest instalment of the government's dead cat strategy!

Nobody's talking about the £840,000 contract handed to Public First, run by James Frayne and Rachel Wolf, who has been an associate of Michael Gove and Cummings for ages.

Something stinks - and it's not just dead cats!

Is the Duchess of Cambridge the duchess everyone hates or the squeaky clean one with 3 children? I forget which is which!

You have had some fun with researching this, haven't you, growstuff ?

Insomniacs have to do something in the dead of the night! And I don't mean killing kittens!!

The Duchess of Cambridge is the squeaky clean one.

I started off curious, but ended up livid. Why the hell should some online porn site with (alleged) girl on girl sex (masquerading as a feminist empowerment organisation) get government funding, when there are millions of people who have received nothing from any of the funds? Many of these people are going to lose their jobs, their homes and they won't be able to afford food. Meanwhile, some people are overjoyed that they're going to get £10 of a meal. Wow! The government certainly knows where the mugs are.

I wonder how much dirt they have stored away, ready to tell all if anybody tries to rock the boat.

MaizieD Sat 11-Jul-20 07:09:01

It's getting to be very 'last days of the Roman Empire', fin de siecle, isn't it? Squeaky clean, upright, straightlaced Britain turns out to be a cesspit of vice and corruption.

I share your anger, growstuff. ?

Urmstongran Sat 11-Jul-20 07:18:44

It was probably ever thus MaizieD the upper class has access to money which can be spent on deviant behaviour and illegal drugs - even in Edwardian times (and probably since the Roman orgies!). There’s nowt new about human behaviour i suppose. Just more media sharing.

I don't actually need history lectures, thank you, Ug, I have a degree in it.

I'm old enough to remember when ministers resigned for quite mild sexual misdemeanors When the country and the government aspired to have some sort of moral compass. When Britain was respected, not an international laughing stock.
I don't care to see it being dragged into the sewer.

Lucca Sat 11-Jul-20 08:00:54

Good post Maizie.

Baggs Sat 11-Jul-20 08:19:29

KK is too close to KKK for comfort.

Elegran Sat 11-Jul-20 08:40:33

My interpretation of KK's name was that the kittens were the object of the present participle (or possibly gerund) "killing" , and whatever the origin of the phrase, my sympathies are with the kittens, not with the hedonists who want money given to them to support their pleasures which could assist hungry workers and children . As the female-led firm seems to be largely about fashionably promoting non-mainstream sex and pornography, they may well get their grant.

When people in many industries are losing their jobs and the businesses they worked hard to establish, if these chancers want to supply pornography and masturbation, they can fund it out of their own efforts!

This is MY definition of decadence - not the innocent enjoyment of the good things in life that the word is used for these days, but the abuse of wealth to squander it on expensive self-centred squalor.

Blinko Sat 11-Jul-20 08:58:50

I'm with you on this, Elegran. What on earth is going on?

Baggs Sat 11-Jul-20 09:08:08

Well said, elegran.
