- because as a well known gammon he claims that to use the term gammon in a derogatory way is racist.

What is a gammon supposed to be apart from meat. I've no idea without googling.

Doodledog Fri 09-Apr-21 13:32:32

What? What is the gammon race?

I bet he is the kind of person who bangs on about others 'playing the race card', too.

Gannygangan Fri 09-Apr-21 13:33:42

Anyone that uses the term gammon is gammon themselves. Man or woman. Ghastly term. We need to grow up and stop talking BS

Gammon is a term given to 'little Englanders' who are red in the face (like gammon) because of all the shouting about foreigners and feminists and so on that they do.

Does he need a good basting?

fairfraise Fri 09-Apr-21 13:36:25

I see.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 09-Apr-21 13:37:19

Well I suppose Neil is self identifying as a gammon to be so annoyed about its term and claim racism.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 09-Apr-21 13:38:09

Apparently the term was first used by that well known racist Charles Dickens.

JaneJudge Fri 09-Apr-21 13:39:22

He doesn't half ham it up

Whitewavemark2 Fri 09-Apr-21 13:40:34

Is this thread for real?

I'm not a Neil fan, but he's not stupid enough to say something like that, surely?

Yes it is real and he did, although because of the reaction he got of a lot of merriment etc, he seems to be rowing back saying it was not meant to be taken seriously, which I think makes his remark even weirder.

It’s a racist term!

MaizieD Fri 09-Apr-21 14:07:16

He did indeed say it. On twitter...

He's rumoured to be intelligent, but I have my doubts...

Since when was 'gammon' a race?

It’s a racist term!

I wonder what race the Gammons are?

JaneJudge Fri 09-Apr-21 14:13:16

They come from crackle glaze region of Birmingham

Blossoming Fri 09-Apr-21 14:15:08

It’s even older than Charles Dickens.. Gammon-faced has been around as an insult for a long time.

He blocked the person on Twitter who used it about him. What a snowflake ?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 09-Apr-21 14:20:34

I think Neil absolutely epitomises a Gammon.

It is the original prototype?

Blossoming Fri 09-Apr-21 14:22:21

Fair fa’ your ruddy, angry face,
Great chieftain o’ the gammon race.

Said no poet ever grin

It’s disrespectful and unpleasant to call people names, but I think he would have done better to ignore it.

eazybee Fri 09-Apr-21 14:27:09

It is simply name-calling by ignorant people.

Shall we dig up Neil’s name calling?

He can out-ignorant most people by the score.

suziewoozie Fri 09-Apr-21 14:32:23

Good grief - when you think about the words the right use about the left. He’s getting off lightly imo given what a **** he is. I presume people have picked up the word his mate Fox tweeted to describe 3 named people who now, joy of joys, are taking legal action against him.?
