Nothing true and fair about Gina Miller who tried to stop the democratic Brexit vote. What do you think?

Kandinsky Mon 27-Sep-21 12:31:59

I think she’s missing her 15 minutes of fame.

What was Democratic about Brexit?

Alegrias1 Mon 27-Sep-21 12:33:09

Gina Miller tried to ensure that Parliament had sovereignty. I'd have thought that would have been popular with the Brexit bunch?

Sarnia Mon 27-Sep-21 12:33:50

She just has to keep on doesn't she? I have never met her but from the brief media coverage I have seen of her she likes the sound of her own voice and considers her opinion as being the only one worth discussing. As Maudi says, nothing true and fair about Gina Miller during Brexit. It won't taker her long to count my vote.

Kali2 Mon 27-Sep-21 12:37:39

Well, it it was not for the ridiculous First Past the Post system, I'd join.

The FPP system will ensure that any division in the opposition will mean Tories will be back, probably not with Johnson at the helm.

This country cannot afford to have the opposition divided, and now less than ever before. labour must take note.

She took the government to court to try to ensure that parliament took back control. That is why our democracy is a parliamentary democracy. But is seems that there as many interpretations of 'take back control' as there are leavers.

Granmarderby10 Mon 27-Sep-21 12:54:06

Gina Miller was just trying to stop the mop headed one from driving the runaway train that was Brexit through our parliamentary process.

I’d rather our FPTP voting than PR. Coalitions of groups just seem to produce more hot air (ahem, discussions) and decision making becomes very problematic for the poor electorate!

So are you saying that nearly every other country in Europe (including Scotland) doesn't work?

I think she's saying that she's not terribly keen on Democracy

If the cap fits. Nicola Sturgeon is struggling. Tied in with the Greens. Ooh, that’s going to go well.

What could produce more hot air than Johnson?

Fair that's a joke, coming from her not a democratic bone in her body.

I bow to your forensically argued case...

eazybee Mon 27-Sep-21 13:34:59

Oh, I read that and had completely forgotten her.
Do you think the same will happen with Angela Rayner?

Alegrias1 Mon 27-Sep-21 13:36:29

I know I shouldn't, but anyway....

The SNP won 64 seats in the 2021 election which is one more than it won in 2016. (The SNP, which people like to personalise as Nicola Sturgeon because its easier to have a go at an uppity woman, same as Gina Miller or Angela Rayner).

They have reached an agreement with the Greens to work together over the next 5 years because that is how PR governments work.

No struggling.

Blimey I thought she was brilliant at the time and would love to see her come back with some alternative to the clowns we have in power now
Can’t anyone see that all the bad stuff we thought would happen through Brexit is happening now in bucketloads
What a joke this country has become

What was Democratic about Brexit?

A Referendum.

I believe that Germany's National Socialist Party and Hitler was keen on referendums in the 1930s too - so not sure that is an argument for democracy.

Even the right wing extremest papers seem to recognise that referendums do not equal democracy, and they supported Germany in the 1930s I gather.

I think you'll find the pandemic has had a big influence on what is happening now.
We had a democratic referendum on Brexit.
I think you'll find that the staunch remainers are the undemocratic ones in our society.

Alegrias1 Mon 27-Sep-21 15:30:44

In order:

Not that big, actually.

No we didn't.

No we're not.

Germany has had a coalition government throughout the period of Angela Merkel's Chancellorship. Germany is probably the most successful country in the EU. What's not to like?

As someone pointed out elsewhere the referendum was flawed. The only reason that no legal action was taken was because it was an advisory referendum.

The staunch remainers are the ones that are attempting to ensure that come the next election the public do not forget the mess this govt has made.
