He can’t possibly stay as is being suggested until the autumn.

Far too much damage is being done, and surely the Tory party can’t trust him one inch!

I think he's got to go too.
He is a liability.

That's the next battle the Tories will have - I can't see many MPs wanting him to stay on as caretaker as he can't be trusted to act honourably.

He can't go until there is a new leader to take over as PM. If he handed his resignation to the Queen now it would mean we had no PM.

vegansrock Thu 07-Jul-22 10:03:52

We basically have no government at the moment, who will want to serve in his cabinet? Apart from Nadine obv. Maybe a ministerial post for Carrie?

The Queen can appoint a temporary PM. That is not a problem.

The last time a monarch chose a PM was 1834

So?

I agree, he can’t be allowed to remain, he’s too much of a loose cannon. I’ve emailed my MP, who is chief whip, to say so.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 07-Jul-22 10:16:45

I thought that the Queen invited Alex Douglas- Hume to be PM.

MayBee70 Thu 07-Jul-22 10:17:11

Surely the deputy PM should take over?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 07-Jul-22 10:20:26

Yes I guess so unless the cabinet is so tainted none can be trusted

That's Dominic Raub maybe even the Conservatives can't rely on him!

Still not a word from our head of state. It’s almost as if our nation’s affairs are of no concern to her.

What do you expect her to say?

Farzanah Thu 07-Jul-22 10:40:31

He’s done so much damage already and don’t believe he should stay even for a few months. The country is in a terrible state with so many immediate concerns about the increasing cost of living, health, and of course the war in Ukraine for starters.

TillyTrotter Thu 07-Jul-22 10:41:23

Her response will need to be written (and worded carefully). I don’t think she can say “Hurrah, not before time” which is what I said.

TillyTrotter Thu 07-Jul-22 10:42:05

Sorry missed out Majesty’s

Farzanah Thu 07-Jul-22 10:43:02

Why on earth have so many MPs suddenly found their sense of integrity all of a sudden I wonder? This has been going on for months and most have supported Johnson.
All of the cabinet are tainted.

growstuff Thu 07-Jul-22 10:43:46

Truss is cutting short a visit. Is she going to be shoe-horned in as next leader (temporarily)? hmm

MayBee70 Thu 07-Jul-22 10:43:51

He was only in it for the glory and the perks. They must be be stripped from him immediately. He never had any desire to serve this country: only himself.

She should have told him when much earlier on that he should resign as other Heads of State would have But she can only do what PM asks so is powerless and pointless

When he was giving his mate contracts of millions of pounds for failed PPE

Grany Thu 07-Jul-22 10:46:19

Billions of pounds

You might find this thread, by a senior fellow of the Institute for Government, helpful:

Basically, she says that the tories could propose an interim caretaker PM to the Queen, who could appoint on the basis that their choice has the backing of the Party.

I've seen Theresa May being proposed as caretaker.
