Prostitution

Why do some societies think that paying for sex is wrong - and do we not all pay for sex in one way or another? A marriage licence does not make you a nice person and getting paid for your time does not make you a bad person... and why don't people realise that actually some prostitutes want to be just that - they enjoy it! It's not all about manipulation and danger - in fact probably no more so than some marriages. Who gives us the right..........

I hope the police attitude towards assaults on prostitutes has improved and that of some newspapers. I remember my outrage when the headlines read 'Yorkshire Ripper now targets innocent woman'.

Well said Greatnan

But do we really help prostitutes by making it illegal to supply sex but not illegal to use a prostitute
The famous "i thought she was older" disappears as does another reason for taking drugs
In Scotland and in England we have women and children boys and girls brought into the country against their will to use for sex

It may be easier to protect them if we make prostitution illegal

We then have a right to shut down places like the barely disguised shops supplying sex disguised as massage parlours
Many years ago the houses used as a place to sell sex were easy to spot and will be now

Very different to UK now though. If some of the prostitutes are forced into it by pimps, poverty and desperation (like for many of the Eastern Europe or African prostitutes who think they are coming here for a life of luxury- and their passports taken away by pimps) - then it should be illegal, surely.

Many prostitutes nowadays become prostitutes because they see it as 'easy and quick' money. Two of the students at my daughter's University laughed at those who worked in a bar or supermarket to keep afloat - saying they could get the same money in a couple of hours, buy designer clothes, etc.

I do not know of a single mother out there who would be happy to see her daughter make that choice. So why is it OK for other people's daughters? Just don't get it.

And yes, if it was the only way to keep my kids fed and warm - I would do it to, of course.

I agree, absent.....a lot of women had to sell themselves in Italy during the war.

Surely if prostitution is "the only alternative to seeing my children starve", then it's hardly a free choice.

Ella46 Wed 20-Jun-12 08:01:32

If it was the only alternative to seeing my children starve in poverty, then I would do anything. Some people live in appalling conditions and it's easy to judge.

Like you granjura, I find it difficult to believe that any woman would sell her body night after night to any man who would pay for it, and if my daughter had chosen this 'profession' then I have my doubts about being able to live with that. Being of the older generation too, 'sex' has always been associated with 'love' and 'marriage'. Now there's a good old fashioned ide.

Another problem with the "disabled people need prostitutes" argument is that, I am guessing, this only accounts for a tiny proportion of the trade.
Lot of it is just a form of recreation it seems.

jeni Tue 19-Jun-12 21:01:01

Mind you, I think ella has it right!

Anagram Tue 19-Jun-12 20:57:54

I know, jeni, but I couldn't resist....

jeni Tue 19-Jun-12 20:52:34

I did say 'a reincarnation!'

Ella46 Tue 19-Jun-12 20:51:04

granjura, I think the reason it seems more 'normal' for men to use prostitutes than for women, is because women have got better things to do and think about!
Sex is on mens' minds a lot of the time, whereas women are getting on with things!

wink

Anagram Tue 19-Jun-12 20:49:36

At least he's not dead! grin

jeni Tue 19-Jun-12 20:48:48

Isn't he getting on a bit?

Anagram Tue 19-Jun-12 20:47:27

granjura! grin

granjura Tue 19-Jun-12 20:35:13

Robert Redford will 'do' me, lol.

Anagram Tue 19-Jun-12 20:08:17

Ooh, yes!

jeni Tue 19-Jun-12 19:58:13

Can't be bothered, he'd have to be a reincarnation of Yul Brynner to get me going!

granjura Tue 19-Jun-12 19:56:14

LOL - but so are most men who use prostitutes - perhaps partly the reason they do.

jeni Tue 19-Jun-12 19:43:20

Couldn't agree more! But for me ! I'm past my Best before date!

granjura Tue 19-Jun-12 19:35:11

My comment jeni was not about the perception of men who prostitute themselves to women - but of women who pay for sex for whatever reason. And your comment illustrates this quite well. I am not expressing myself very well, but why should it seem quite normal and OK for, say men with disabled or 'turned off' wives to use prostitutes, but not the other way round?

whenim64 Tue 19-Jun-12 17:46:41

A very practical, helpful solution Mishap smile

Mishap Tue 19-Jun-12 17:41:40

I once persuaded SSD to fund a sex toy for one of my male clients who was so disabled that he could not masturbate - the only problem was that the label saying "Made in Taiwan" made him laugh so much that he went off the boil in a big way!!

jeni Tue 19-Jun-12 17:41:31

I saw money being passed. Usually American 'ladies' of sort of Dame Edna appearance! They got quite hissy if their 'escorts' were late?

Ella46 Tue 19-Jun-12 17:21:54

I think I've lost the thread of this thread hmm.
