Should PMs be allowed to give Honours to their mates?

I believe that with one stroke Mr Cameron devalued OBEs MBEs and other honours in the New Year Honours List.

People who he listed were:

Mrs Cameron's hairdresser Isabel Spearman who got an OBE!
His own hairdresser who got an MBE
George Osborn Ex Chancellor who got Companion of Honour

to mention just 3. He also gave honours to his drivers and others who were just doing their job.

Do you think there should be a re-think on how Honours are awarded?

should be done away with as all titles should, gives people a false sense of superiority

This is something that all PM's have done ( remember Harold Wilson's friend, the famous coat manufacturer of Gannex) grin
Presumably one of the perks of PM ship.

Another outdated part of the British system, do away with all the patting on back nonsense.

Just because they have all done it, that does not make it right.
We need a second chamber, I think, but the House of Lords is just too large.

Looks like a majority then for abolishing the honours system.???

The honours system needs an overhaul and the House of Lords needs to be replaced by an elected second chamber with proper powers.

I am not mad about the honours system, but it is good to have some way of recognising the dedication and hard work of ordinary people. I cannot however see any way that you could prevent it becoming a perk for the so-called "great and the good" and their mates. Bit of a shame really.
